Something worth noting... the winner of the Palma agg on Saturday was shooting a *factory* Browning A-Bolt Target, and the winner of the Palma agg on Sunday was shooting a *factory* Savage 12 F-TR...

thanx a lot Monte, for the great advices and posting my horrible score. Learned a lot about wind and what the new rifle can and cannot do.

The full thread on the match with results for both sling and F-class is over on usrifleteams.com:

For those not interested in joining the forum just to read the posts, here are the F-Class relevant highlights for Saturday & Sunday:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Saturday was a nice day overall... for Portland
wink.gif

Intermittent sun and rain in the morning - one relay might have their rain gear on, the next might be in tee-shirts (F-Class, anyways). Winds were light but variable, as the weathermen like to say. @ 800 I had essentially zero wind on the gun, and held back and forth about a half-minute across the center. @ 900 I had a solid 3 moa on the gun, down to 1, back up to 2 moa. By 1k the rain sprinkles were mostly over, and it was mainly a matter of sun coming out and cranking up the mirage for one relay, or hiding behind overcast for the next.

John Weil started out the day with a bang, leading the pack with a 150-9X. 900 saw a bit of a shifting of fortunes as the wind was much more variable there, and @ 1k people were having a hard time seeing the condition changes by anything other than where the shots landed on the targets. The typical Douglas Ridge vertical zingers were present, tossing the occasional shot high or low into the 9 or even the 8 ring... from some of the conversations I was hearing, not even the sling shooters were completely immune.

Mark Anderson was on fire, only dropping 11 points total on the Palma course, leading everyone F/O and F/TR alike, shooting his factory Browning A-Bolt Target rifle to good effect. Ron Herms stepped up on the 1k Any/Any with a 196-10 and picked up the lead for the day.

Several people across both sling and F-Class were having ammo and/or equipment problems - blown primers *and* (gun) sight problems in the case of Annette, and blown primers and stock torque issues for Stan. After 800 most of the blown primer issues solved themselves as the rain went (mostly) away, but some of the equipment problems persisted. </div></div>

...and Sunday:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">As evidenced by the scores, the conditions were less twitchy today. Still had the vertical zingers up and down the line, and the overcast was such that there was almost no visible mirage. On the flip side... you *could* see the scoring rings well enough to hold off fairly precisely. No rain - it spit a few drops here and there, but that was about it. Very little wind... I don't think I ever had more than a half-minute on the scope, and at most held off just into the 8-ring for a bit @ 900. With essentially no mirage and questionable wind flags, 'chase-the-spotter' seemed to work about as well as any other strategy.

John Weil was the rock star today... dropped four points total on the Palma course to edge out Ron Herms (shooting a .284 Win), with Mark Anderson hot on their heels. Ron shot clean on both the 1000yd stage of the Palma match and the 20rd 'Any/Any' - very nice! Bob Lawrence racked up a very nice 197-9X with his Savage 12 F-class in 6BR, and John Weil was close behind him with a 196-7X which as far as I can tell put him 4 pts behind Ron for the daily agg. I didn't hang around for the awards as I have to be at work @ 0600 tomorrow morning and it was a 5 hr drive home... so if I got any of that wrong, feel free to correct me

We had a lot of new long-range shooters out this weekend... probably almost a third of the F-Class shooters. Kudos to them for bucking up and coming out to give it a whirl. It was a good weekend to get a little taste of long-range F-class with the conditions being pretty reasonable both days. Hopefully we'll get to see them come back again! </div></div>
