Rifle Scopes Burris XTR II 1-8 & Steiner P4Xi 1-4

The P4Xi is an insanely good scope that punches far above its weight.
I'm also dumping most of my red dots to put another Steiner LPVO on the other non-precision rifle I have. I'm thinking of ordering a Steiner Ranger 1-4X from optics-trade.eu. It's a P4Xi with a different name, mil instead of MOA turrets and a #4i reticle instead of the P3TR
- The glass is way clearer and void of aberrations than any on a $500 scope has any right to be
- The reticle is very fast to use, even in low light. With a little work to get used to it, I am as fast at close range as I am with an RDS. Shot timer verified and repeatable.
- The BDC is pretty much right on for most 5.56 loadings under 62 grains
- The illuminated central dot goes from NV only to crazy nuclear Aimpoint bright
- It doesn't weigh a fuckton
- It's extremely easy to get behind it even in awkward positions
- The turrets are not crisp. Not a big deal when their point is to zero the scope and then cap them
- For the same reason, the lack of zero stop and re-settable zero mark on the elevation turret don't matter
- The illumination knob detents are "soft" but they are definitely distinct

I've been using the Steiner P4Xi for a little over a year now on my duty rifle. I haven't had a single issue and it has kept zero through 5 training days, personal casual training days, over a year of riding around in the back of a patrol Tahoe, and one gunfight.

And to piggyback on what 308pirate wrote.... at full power it is completely daylight bright. Even in the middle of summer here in Phoenix I had no issue with dot visibility.
+1 for P4xi even though I've traded it towards XTRii 1-8 rfp. The XTR is a great scope on a bolt rifle or AR for brush hunting inside 300 yards. Red dot is daylight bright as well, but the scope itself is pretty heavy and horrible on high magnification in low light (great during the day). It works well around 5 maybe 6 power max in low light with low setting on the dot. It is also about twice as heavy and twice as expensive than P4xi.
I would suggest and would like to try as well the Vortex hd lh 1.5-8x32. Lightweight, Low Japan glass, modified G4 reticle, but its not illuminated. Amazon has them for a great price right now.

I've tested the dot in the other extreme: full sun on a snowy landscape. Yep, Aimpoint bright.
We still have a few unmounted, open box, same as new, Steiner P4Xi's with throw lever for only $469.399 available
Well I decided to get both, just waiting now, but thanks again for all the comment and feedback, well done. Anyone run the Burris or the Steiner on a 308 rifle? and if so how close was the BDC depending on your load.
