Rifle Scopes Burris XTR II Rifle Scopes

Im very excited for these. Ive had decent scopes from all over. Could be wrong but doesnt nikon make some of their stuff in the phillipines.

I agree with malsa82. Bigjimfish knows what he is talking about and gave good reviews. All these people saying they are junk before they even hit the market are crazy to me. Anybody who knows anything about manufacturing knows that location has little to do with quality.
Brightside, at least they may not be too hard to get since so many people know they suck.

Last I checked most Nikon scopes were made in the Philippines. I think their only scopes made in Japan are possibly the Monarch X series ($1k price range).

I hadn't known that Burris actually owned their own factory there, which is a huge plus vs. outsourcing to an unrelated company.

We'll see when production samples start getting reviewed - which should only be two weeks or less if the inventory information at the Opticsplanet website is accurate.

They're all over. I don't get it.

People buy and use what they like and can afford. I have some guns and some related equipment - pretty much from what others call "junk" to "damn I wish I could afford the too" stuff. For me, it's about how it works for me, in price, quality, what I need it to do. It's not up to someone else to be critical of what I use - based on MY needs, not theirs.

Scopes? Zeiss, Vortex, Bushnell, Burris, Tasco and Simmons. The Simmons is a vintage Japanese 800116 8-32X44 AO. I've had it on any number of rifles and had some pretty strange looks at the range because of what I've had it on - until I tell them to just look through it.

Like I said - I just don't get it.

I just noticed the box my Zeiss Diascope 85 FL spotter body came in has a "made in China" sticker on it.
I'm confident that it's merely assembled in China... with optics this good it was surely built with lenses constructed by Zeiss themselves. It is phenomenal.

If the XTR II scopes deliver what Burris has written about them, I will be buying one without a doubt.

OMG!! Made in china! It must be crap. It has to be mis-labeled :)

I love stuff made here in the good ole US of A! But good luck finding anything anymore! Ford, Chevy, Dodge all have all their parts manufactured elsewhere and often the cars and trucks are built in Canada. I think Burris was a great company with a great product. If the new product is any good I'll definitely own one. Burris always stood behind their product and hopefully the warranty shop will be in Colorado - that maintains some jobs here.

I just love the "logic" of some who are condemning the XTR II before it even hits the ground.

I have used Burris FFII scopes on several hunting rifles and they have worked great on both light and heavy recoiling rifles. If the XTR II works in a similar fashion it will be a lot of scope for the money.

Why not wait and see how it does before declaring it junk?

Can't wait to get a 4-20 for my Mega Arms Maten. Have several Burris FF II scopes and they haven't let me down yet. On the plus side Burris offers a discount to law enforcement which makes me want to support them more.

Burris scopes are outsourced to Kenko or Asia Optical. The same companies that make scopes for Nikon, Bushnell, Pentax, etc...

Also, Burris has been sending manufacturing overseas ever since Beretta bought them in 2002. It started with their Fullfield II line.

I guess their opinions are based on past experience with burris products. ;-)

I remeber reading an article in the Complete Book of the AR15 (circa 2006~2007)by Robert Kolesar. He used an M16A2 with an ARMS #2 mount, weaver rings and a Burris 4X20 Compact scope in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was very happy with the equipment. I don't know if he is a "real operator".

Another excellent reason not to support this company. Mind you, real operators don't use junk.

real operators will use what works, and what ever their unit tells them to use. regardless of what you may have read on the douche-net, SOCOM operators do not have magic lamps with genies inside to grant their every wish. that goes for CAG and DEVGRU, they do however get to test shit before everybody else. if this scope turns out to be real good for the $$ you could in fact see these scopes on combat rifles at some point. there are a lot of little "white coats" in DOD that are looking to save a buck right now.

and please don't say "i've read this or that, or i knew this guy." most guys that say their a CAG operator are in fact PAC clerks or cooks.

so unless you've lived the life, don't act like you know shit.

and just because they don't offer a mil discount doesn't mean you should discount the company. many times you can get shit on ebay new for less than with a mil discount.

I just ordered the 5x25 to try. I just retired and my department is not supplying my rifle any longer so I'm building my own. Now I find that some of the equipment I have chosen is going to make me a " Poser " I guess 15 years on a tac unit and sniper team was a waste. Maybe I should ask him what to buy so I'm not embarrassed at the range! This is my first post I usually just read and get some good info but the " poser " line made me mad enough to respond. It's not the how much you can spend that counts. It how you use what you have.

Great 1st post. Thanks for your service.

Team Beretta, look forward to your unbiased review.

i called burris about a month ago to inquire about a LE/MIL discount, and they said they don't give one anymore?

My understanding is that Burris does offer a direct LE/Mil discount. It requires proof of affiliation or active duty. There are apparently some changes in process as they are implementing the program through their LE distributors. Not gospel, but I am confident in the source. :)

I live close the Burris shop here in Colorado. I wonder if they let people come in and check out things?? Might have to try and swing by so I can get my hands on one of them.

They have a showroom at the 10st. Greeley address on the west of town. I think it's 10st. and 54th ave. Super friendly, went in there with my kids and they were nice enough to let them play with some demos as looked at products.

I'm in Brush so I'll have to stop by next time I'm up that way! Thanks

Do you have a problem with US manufacturing and supporting companies that manufacture in the US?

This is something you should take up with your congressman/senators. They make this an irresistibly profitable option for U.S manufacturers ( in the short term, your seed corn is much easier to get and is just as delicious as your planting corn). As far as Burris and Vortex goes, I have a Burris MTAC 1-4, A Vortex 2.5-10 FFP EBR, A Burris 1-4 XTR , A Burris Fastfire 3 and Vortex SPARC ( Also have an AimPoint PRO... foreign junk). Dont regret buying any of them . Top notch tools for the price.

The Vortex 2.5 -10 FFP EBR is a direct stab at the Nightforce 2.5-10×42 NXS™ COMPACT RIFLESCOPE. I will readily admit that the NF version is more solidly built.... but not over $1k better, in fact its more like on a scale of 1-10 the NightForce scope is a 10 and the Vortex is an 8.75 . I had the choice between these scopes and after carefully inspecting them i went with the product from the Philippines.

They do offer discount to MIL/LE but they discount from the very high MSRP/MAP price, most of the time you can find better deals just by buying out of state and avoiding sales tax.

If they are still doing the 50% off MSRP for LEO it would make the 4-20X50 become about $363 cheaper than ordering from SWFA for me. That is including the sales tax. So I emailed them today and hope they are still offering the same discount they did in the past. I will post back when I get an answer from them.

Beretta owns Tikka, Sako, Steiner, Burris, Stoeger... Just so you know.

On another note, I hate Burris. Their new line of scopes looks to be of quality though. But due to personal reasons, I'll never buy another Burris product again. Nor anything Beretta owns.

I'm as aware of that as the shill I responded to.

You have that right. Welcome.

"Real operators" use what they got to complete their mission. I doubt you often hear- "I'm not jumping off this plane until my CO puts a S&B on my stick!"

You sir, are my bitch!

On a side note, I am sure Burris will take care of mil/leo. If not, the vendors here do their best.

Burris XTR II 5x25 Test.

Team Beretta, look forward to your unbiased review.

I have several of the guys from my unit that are still on the job coming out with their rigs. We want to do a side by side comparison. There will be a pst, razor, two night force, S&B ,SWFA and leupold. We will see how it stacks up. I'm not counting on it being on par with the $3000 plus , but I am not a going to sing the praises of something just because I own one. When I find out so will you. Also thanks to all that made me feel welcome. I will give a honest review but I am not a pro like some here.

You anywhere near Winslow?

No date yet. Optic planet called and said they are getting them in two weeks. I'm there first sale of the 5x25 so I'm first on the list. Also I'm in the Jackson area. The test will be at CJRP or one of the local departments ranges.
I'll keep you guys updated.

My question is why talk bad about an optic you have not even seen? Isn't it better to seem like an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt? I love the back and forth but it has to have some factual basis.......

Posters become enabled when they use anonymous usernames and can create havoc and feel free to attack anyone or anything without much concern for recrimination. Pretty easy to become essentially, a shit starter just for grins because there are so many others that decide to defend their positions on what they do or buy, when the shit starter attacks them - anonymously.

Vicious cycle. Some times we get caught up in it, not realizing we're generally defending against - vapor. No one's home.

Hey man, I like COD. My mommy threw me out 28 years ago and I am unqualified to receive guberment checks!!! So sad.:(

I hate when people knock a product because of it's name and price tag or it isn't used by our military. I would love to trade my lowly PST's and NF in for all S&B's but it wouldn't be the financially responsible thing for me to do at the moment. I consider my self lucky to be able to afford PST's while I have a wife in school, as well as 3 kids and a mortgage to pay.

QFT.

I would love a S&B or a Mk 8 Leupold. Financial reality and applied use dictate greatly diminishing returns after $1k in my case.

Here's the Brightside - NOW you really don't need another of either....

For me - Burris ain't gettin' another dime from me - until the 8-40X50 FFP hits the street....:)

Yep, I told myself that I would sell the XTR and PEPR mount as a package deal for near $650 in the future and keep the FF3 for basically free... I sure hope that a rifle doesn't materialize under it in the mean time.

have been told a tentative date yet?

Don't quote me but this what I heard - the first wave being released for "professional reviewers" first couple weeks in February, and actual shipments to distributers late Feb/early March so I wouldn't expect before Feb/March at the earliest.

Also, as previously pointed out, Beretta owns interest in both Steiner and Burris, and dont think its a coincidence that the old Steiner got fazed out and a new line of Burris tactical scopes suddenly appear (this is my own conspiracy theory) but I have been told that the new XTR2 is modeled after the Steiner technology. To say that they "stole Nightforce design" is truly ignorant. Looks nothing like a NF. If anything it looks like a Steiner. And to compare it to a Bushnel HDMR is probably more online with the performance, but I have heard of more of those being returned for poor glass (CA) than I care to count, including one I owned and one my shooting buddy owned (esp with that phenomenal japan parts/glass). But I sure did like their rect. I have also had friends return Vortex products.

Nothings perfect but to denounce a product before it comes out shows your level of intelligence (or lack thereof).

I am excited for this scope (because of my Steiner conspiracy) and just ordered a couple myself. My wife wants a 4-20 for a match rifle Im building her and I need a 2-10 for my 223 varmint rifle.

Also wanted to add, what I added in another post and prob the main reason I ordered a couple, I shot with a guy that had an early production XTR2 5-25 at snipers hide cup last year and I believe he was in the top 20. I also looked through it and played with it as I was very surprised that is said Burris on the side of it. Its funny another guy said he doesn't remember how the clicks feel, but would remember if they were bad. I feel the exact same way about them. I would have remembered if they were bad. I am expecting very good things about this scope. I just wish the 2-10 was illuminated.

Regards,
DT

I called Burris Optics this morning and spoke with "Chris" regarding delivery of the 8-40X50. He told me they expect to start seeing them the second week of Feb, with full shipments not later than the end of Feb.

We'll see how that goes.
