I'm looking at getting this scope and had a few questions about the mil-dot reticle on it. i was reading a review and one guy said that you have to use the scope on 12x to use the mils to range, it even shows the 12x on the scope in red so you remember it, but i always though u had to use the magnification at 10x to correctly range. can you range with different powers? does it make the equations different/harder to do?

p.s. why am i to dumb to get good results with the search feature? it seems like i search something and it brings up random stuff.

Yes, the Bushnell 6-24s with mildot reticles are synched for 12x rather than 10x. This is done simply by changing the size of the reticle. Bushnell did this so that you can also use the mildot to range at 6x and 24x without changing the math too much. At 12x you use the standard mildot formula

(Objects Height(or width) in yards x 1000) / (Objects Height (or width) in mils)= Range in yards

Since their mils are calibrated for 12x you can use the same formula at 6x and 24x, you just have to double your final range when your on 24x and half your final range when you on 6x.

Hope this made sense! Happy shooting.

With a 20moa base, can I get to 1K with the adjustment provided in the 6-24X or would I be better off with the 6500 2.4-16X? .308 of course.

A 20 Moa canted base should give you enough to reach out to 1000. Im not sure about the 6500 series, but ive heard good things, and i would imagine they would have they internals to make it out that far.
A guy is selling a 4200 and and a 6500, both tactical in the ads right now.

Seems like a good deal for either one.

I have mine mounted on a 15moa base and still have enough adjustment to get out to a 1000yds. Going from what I've read about the 4200s though the adjustment range may vary 1-3 or more moa, so you would need to check the one you purchase for the total moa adjustment it has. In my opinion they are good scopes for the money, good glass, track well, and holds zero well.

Mel from Sniper Central did. You should read his review.

Essentially it all boils down to:

Very good scope with higher quality glass than the price might suggest. Very good turrets. Very good light gathering capabilities. Only downfall is elevation range in the adjustments. One can get to 1000 yards, but will have very little room to play when zeroing at 100. He was able to do both.
