I purchased a Bushnell Excursion 15-45X60 FFP mildot reticle spotting scope from Optics Planet during an after Christmas sale in 2010. It was about $300.00. I used it in several matches that spring and summer and several times at the range while shooting off a bench. The only time I took the soft cover off was to send it in for repair to Bushnell. It never took any abuse nor did it show any signs of wear/tear when I sent it in. One day while shooting from a bench the magnification ring got real gritty and the reticle started rotating when the magnification was changed. It got worse and eventually froze up all internal adjustments. The only thing that would turn was the reticle.

I sent the scope in 2 weeks ago for repair. I checked my repair status this morning and it said the scope was not covered by warranty and repair/replacement would cost me $292.00. I called and spoke with a woman about the problem I had and was told several different reasons why they could not repair it, none were true. It was sent in wrapped in 2 layers of bubble wrap. All needed information was with the scope. It showed no external signs of damage or abuse. It has a lifetime warranty. I told her I could not imagine a reason why it would not be repaired under warranty. She told me it was not covered due to impact damage. She said they were giving me a new scope at less than half of the new ones MSRP which she said was around $700. Haha, MSRP. Anyway, I understand its their word against mine and for all they know I’m just someone out to get something free.(not true) I feel like they don’t want to own up to the problem and cover the price of replacing it.(Lifetime Warranty?) Instead, they are giving me the opportunity to buy my spotting scope......AGAIN. I told them to keep it, it is useless anyway.

I own a lot of Bushnell products, scopes, rangefinders, etc.... and have always been 100% satisfied with them. I have also read several good reviews about their customer service. I hated having to use it and find out how bad it is first hand. I still think they make a quality product. I would just rather buy from a company that stands behind their stuff. That will be my last time dealing with anything from Bushnell. Those Vortex spotting scopes sure do look nice.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

I sent a TRS into them this morning; bought a Millet LRS and a TRS and the LRS will get nothing but rave reviews from me. The TRS will too, however the elevation turret was "soft" and in some areas of travel i think the gears have a defect since it will sometimes slide .2 mils at a time. it's just not crisp like the LRS.

Hoping for a better experience than you got. The optic is less than 90 days old and only mounted a few weeks ago.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

That's nonsense. I would take that up the ladder. Do not just talk to the first schmoe who answers the phone. Get in touch with someone who has some authority and will care about your complaints, not the $7.00/hr. phone answerer.

Squeaky wheel and all.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

i would try talking to a higher up and i bet they take care of you. i have had nothing but great experiences with bushnell products and there customer service.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

I have the same scope and just downloaded Bushnell'sreturn page. My issue is the edges, while viewing, are getting fuzzy and are creeping closer the the center of the scope. Also the glue that holds the rubber ring that adjusts the power has given way and it will just spin. You have to pinch it hard to adjust power. I'm hoping I have a better experience. Best of luck.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

Got a call a little while ago from someone at Bushnell, I forgot his name. He apologized for the evaluation and is making it right. He said he would personally test the scope before they sent it out to me. Thanks Bushnell.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

the pen is mightier than the sword!

i wish all customer service was customer orientated.

just one dissatisfied customer on a forum like this can damage a company tremendously.

good on bushnell for recognizing this.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

Wareagle700, let me know if it gets resolved properly. Just shoot me a PM and let me know if you need me to take care of anything for you. I manage the riflescope side of the business for Bushnell and can make sure this is taken care of.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

That’s nice that they are finally taking care of it, BUT it should have been taken care of in the first place. It shouldn’t have taken him putting this on a forum to get it taken care of. Obviously they are doing this just to save face. How many schmoes out there that don’t post on forums have gotten screwed?

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

I'd like to say this, the person who contacted me did not mention reading this or anything about a post on a forum. I got the feeling the message was relayed from the woman I spoke with to a higher up. The woman on the phone was polite and probably did exactly as she was trained. Neither of us were rude, I feel like they took care of me in the end.

Grendel 6.5, thanks for the reply. Im sure everything is being taken care of. I'll update this post when I receive my new scope. I was told it could be two weeks before they get any in though. Thanks again.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

I've heard of this exact same thing happening more times than I can count with Bushnell. I've heard a couple of people that have had good experiences, but the negative ones outweigh the good ones by quite a bit. I'm just not a huge Bushnell fan, but their customer service is one thing that really needs improvement imo.

That being said, I've never had to deal with their CS, but I've not been thrilled with any Bushnell product I've had, and most of them have been their Elite series scopes. I just sold my last one I had this morning, and honestly, I'm kind of glad to see it go. It had good glass, and was a decent scope, but it tracked horribly. Actually the only one I've had that's tracked correctly was the 10x40 Elite 3200 Tactical. Everyone I've had without tactical turrets has tracked horribly, and most of the lower priced Bushnells have been crappy in every aspect.

I'm just going to excerpt some of your quote, and I'm not trying to point you out bud.

I personally don't feel that second hand reports on the interweb is a correct way of interpreting their CS but you're entitled to your own opinion . I have personally spoke with Jeff (Grendel 6.5 ) and he has went above and beyond to help me out. Anytime I needed anything he went out of his way to help me out. OP if you have contacted Jeff, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

The particular model spotting scope could not be repaired or replaced. Apparently there is some production issues with the model they were going to replace it with. However, I have spoke with Jeff (Grendel 6.5) and he has gone out of his way to make me a happy customer. They (he) made it right, I will continue to support Bushnell.

Thanks yall!!

+1 on this. I've had personel experience with Bushnell's customer service and was very pleased with the results.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

you really should change title of thread so you don't people the wrong impression since many may not actually read the whole thing to find out they took care of you.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

I had a similar issue with Bushnell, Bought a 5x15 Legend and it wouldnt track, sent for repair they sent back still wouldnt track, so i called and the guy sent me a 5x15 Elite 3200 at no charge. And i kept the Legend.

Re: Bad Bushnell Customer Service Experience (Repair)

It's good to hear of some people having good experiences with Bushnell CS. I hope that they take care of you on this issue, which it sounds like they will.
