OK guys, I am a minor upgrade from my scope, to either an elite tactical 6-24x50 ffp mil/mil with g2 reticle, or a vortex viper PST 6-24x50 ffp mil/mil.

My previous scope is the first Gen elite tactical 6-24x50 moa mil dot. It was a good scope, but I want mil.mil and ffp features now.

So out of the PST and new elite tactical, what is better optically? Sadly I can't stretch to a bushy dmr or vortex razor... yet.

My old bushy used to go a bit fuzzy over 20x... any of those symptoms in the viper or new bushy?

Its going on a 300 win mag, shooting out to a mile, on personish sized targets.

So far so good on the Bushnell 6x24 G2 after 450 rounds. It tracks well and is clear enough to see 6mm holes in a black NRA target @300 if the conditions are right. Image quality does taper off at full magnification, but it's not too bad. My only major complaint so far is that the focus point and parallax free point are a little farther apart than I think they should be. The Christmas tree on the g2 reticle can be a little narrow for some cartriges but should be good for a 10mph full value wind and a 4mph lead with the 300wm. (Double check that)


Don't have any time behind the Vortex so I can't compare.

I have the ET6245FG (FFP G2DMR) and I think it is a fantastic scope for the money.

To my eyes the resolution at 21x is even better than my DMR.

No zero stop and no illumination compared to the Viper PST 6-24, no tunneling, but only 19 Mils internal elevation range.

Between me, my dad and a buddy, we have bought 4 of the Bushy ET with G2 reticles over the winter. Havent used them much yet, but they will get a work out soon enough. I like them a lot so far. Did give the one on my 6.5 Lapua a workout about a month ago and it was flawless out to 1100 and back. The G2 reticle is far superior to the reticle in the Vortex and the glass seemed a touch better to me in comparing to the Viper. Check out Liberty Optics, he was awesome to deal with. You will end up using your reticle if shooting to a mile, just not enough travel in either scope. Upgrade to the HDMR and you will be good to go to a mile.

I have three of the Bushnells and like them a lot. I think they are the best sub $1,000.00 scope out there.
I also have a couple G2DMR's that I use on my comp guns and while I do like them better the 6-24's are very nice as well. I like the fact that they all have the same reticle so I am not switching back and forth.
I don't have a lot of experience with the pst's

Thanks guys! As mentioned my first scope was a first Gen elite 4200 tactical. It was pretty fuzzy over about 18x- to the point of not really being able to see .30 cal holes in paper at 200m!

Has the glass improved since then? I have a friends viper hs 6.5-20x50 and the glass looks better than the bushy did...

I do love the look of the g2 reticle, and illumination isn't important for me, so out of these two I just want the best clarity!

Do you mean you have a couple of DMRs?
G2DMR is a reticle.

I think the DMR has a more forgiving eye box, definitely better turrets, and way more adjustment, but to my eye the glass is not better than the ET.

My brother sent me a bushnell 6-24x50, it's the model with illumination with reticle having hash marks and center with a circle with a dot in it. Not sure wha that reticle is called.

The turrets are not crisp when turned. The eyebox seems small but is easy to get behind.

When looking at a house about 300 yards away on full power it seem to me that there was some purple and yelllow abberation.

The image sharp enough but not as bright as I would like.

Hopefully I can shoot it this week and see how it does. I have it mounted on Sako TRG-22

My comparisons are against the Premier reticle scopes I use.

So an $800 scope falls short of the performance of a $3000 scope?

Was looking at the same two scopes for my 7mm RM for ELR until I saved for something a little better. I think I have decided to just go with the DMR with G2 reticle cant find very much on the ERS and the PST is hit and miss from what I have found. I like that the DMR has more travel and seems to be a hit, from what I have read some guys are selling NF and even better scopes to move to the Bushnell DMR. Kinda want to wait on the 10 rev lzero stop turrets though but haven't decided for sure yet.

I spent a fair amount of time comparing the Bushnell 6-24x50 and the Vortex PST 6-24x50 side by side. I had an eye resolution chart set up at about 200 yards, and I also spent time behind them looking at various objects, buildings, etc, from 50 yards out to about a mile, in various lighting and atmospheric conditions.

Glass:

-Resolution: From my two samples, the PST could consistently resolve one or two lines better then the Bushy on the resolution chart.
-Low-light performance: I could not tell a difference in light-gathering or detail resolution in low light, but the PST reticle was easier to pick up when it was getting dark, plus it has illumination
-Field of view: The Bushy had a wider field of view then the PST on any given power
-CA: I believe this is not as big of a deal as people make it out to be, but the PST had less visible CA then the Bushnell

I realize that glass is really subjective, but the optical differences between these two scopes was very small; definitely not enough to turn a hit into a miss.

Turrets:

-The PST turrets were definitely nicer then the Bushnell, and by nicer I mean they were more crisp and had basically no 'slop' in them. That being said, both were perfectly usable
-The PST has a crude but usable zero stop, the Bushnell does not

Reticles:

-This is simply a matter of preference. The Bushnell is available with the G2DMR reticle, which seems to be pretty popular. If you want a 'Christmas tree' reticle, then get the Bushnell. If you want something more basic, the PST MRAD reticle is well-designed and executed in my opinion.

Warranty:

-I think both companies would take good care of you, but the Vortex warranty is about as good as it gets.


Try to get behind them both if you can. I think either will serve you well.

I have a problem with windage adj. It adj. about 4 mils to move point of impact to the left, but it has about 9 mils to move poi to right.

Zeroed scope at 100 yards and it sure seems like it holds it's zero, I shot 7/8" fiv shot group at that distance.

Scope was mounted with rifle on a level table, rail was level both horizontally and vertically. Vertical level was check with a string tied to a fixture with the string weighted on the end. verticall crosshair lined up perfectly.

Scope is new so it's on it way by fedex to the Repair Lab at Bushnell, to be checked out.

Scope was mounted in Burris QR mount. I did not have an extra set of rings or mount to see if the mount is the problem.

The amount of cash you have to spend to get a very good performing scope seems high. At least that's my view but I've not bought any scopes lately.

I did not like the lack of zero stop. The lines for number of rotations are hard to see on the windage turret, less so on the elevation turret.

Don't have any experience with the Bushnell, nor the Vortex ffp, but do have some time behind a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 sfp, out to 1400yds. I like the EBR-1 reticle just fine, and the adjustments were pretty much dead-on, like I said, out to 1400 & back. Crude or no, the zero stop shims work fine. Compared to several Sightron SIII 6-24x50s, the Vortex's optics are just slightly inferior in resolution in the shadows. I can just barely pick out 223 hits on steel at 600 with the SIIIs when the shadows stretch out in the afternoon, but most times, that's not possible with the PST.

I paid $200 less for my PSTs than for the SIIIs, so taking into consideration the PST's nicer turrets & better reticle, the SIII's slightly better optical quality comes off as kinda pricy.
