If all you want is a mil-dot then the illuminated FFP mil-dot is a good scope for the money.
The G2DMR is meant for providing accurate elevation and windage holdovers, not just ranging like a mil-dot. The ET series of scopes track well so if you plan to use the reticle for range estimation and single axis holdovers, say by dialing elevation and holding windage, then it's perfect for your needs especially if you need illumination.
I just started using an HDMR with the H59 reticle and it provides far more functionality than the G2DMR at the expense of visibility. The G2DMR seems like it can provide 80% of the usefulness of the H59 without information overload but as I use the H59 more I suspect it will become more transparent. I wish it had the thinner stadia lines of the G2DMR at the crosshairs, though, it's a bit thick at full magnification.
Point is if you are considering a reticle that includes windage and elevation holds, the G2DMR is a good choice to ease into it. If you haven't heard many opinions on it you're not looking very hard, as there is a lot of positive feedback about it. I'd try googling "G2DMR Reticle".
