Shanna Marie McLaughlin, 26, was charged with carrying a firearm in a place prohibited by law.
A Playboy Playmate and University of Central Florida alumna was arrested at Orlando International Airport on Monday, when police said she tried to board a plane while carrying a revolver in her bag.
Orlando police arrested Shanna Marie McLaughlin about 6:35 p.m. Monday, according to a police report. The arresting officer wrote that McLaughlin was headed to Los Angeles.
She put the duffel through an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint, the report states, and a Transportation Security Administration operator saw the gun and alerted police.
When confronted, police said the 26-year-old — Playboy's Miss July 2010 — claimed the bag was hers, and that the gun belonged to her boyfriend and she didn't know it was inside.
McLaughlin was jailed on a charge of carrying a firearm in a place prohibited by law. The gun, a .45-caliber Colt revolver loaded with six hollow-point bullets, was confiscated.
Police said McLaughlin does have a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon. She has since been released from jail, and could not be reached Tuesday night. A message to McLaughlin was not immediately returned Wednesday.
McLaughlin made national news last year, when she participated in a controversial photoshoot at her alma mater. The steamy shoot, featuring a scantily clad McLaughlin, took place in a UCF locker room.
The university later apologized for the shoot after a video of it was featured on the website of aXis Magazine, an Orlando entertainment publication.
She is also scheduled to be on the cover of this month's issue of aXis.
