Just curious about what waste products besides salt might be involved. What floculants might be involved, etc.
My ex wife was very floculant. Especially after eating beans. Had to divorce her. I was tired of waking up cold in the night because the covers were floating 2 feet above the bed.
Salt went back into the bay.
It's been a while and I was the safety guy and did maintenance.
The operators were responsible for knowing the process, we just had to fix what they fucked up.
Anyhoo,
We used the warm outflow from the powerplant next door.
That water came to us in a 36" supply line.
First process was screens to remove solids like shells, grass and fish.
From there it went into basins where floculants (ferric chloride?) were added and the water was turned over with giant paddles. I don't remember if bleach was added at this time.
The basins had a small weir to take the floating gunk to the presses, and a pickup tube in the bottom for solids.
The water went through sand filters next.
After that, it got treated with Diatomaceous Earth and then went on to the first pass of the RO filters.
All RO treated water went through a second pass set of filters and then on to a 25 million gallon storage tank for post treatment.
All of filtered junk went into the weirs basin to float off the clean (er) water for pumping back into the bay.
The junk went into the settling basin to be pumped into the presses.
I think the process is very much like wastewater with a few things added in.

One of my detective friends noted this weekend of loads of chatter from Antifa types calling for riots/unrest in the cities. This is already going on in the Portland & Seattle areas. Not going to comment on a Mig-23 that got sold to a bunch of business men in Ohio (a decade + ago), or that no one knew about it until one of the guys requested (and received) clearance for take off, and then asked for a re-confirmation of clearance, because the Mig was purchased...fully armed (air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions). Yeah, some state department folks got bent over on that one...but it was never widely covered by the media...
Aha! As I suspected it's sludge from sediment flocculation. They use ferric instead of alum.
