Cabela's no longer gives a discount to Active Duty or Disabled Vets except 2 days a year.
I think this sucks.
As pricey as their stuff is I doubt it makes much difference on the bottom line.
Do other stores such as BassPro offer a discount?
Up until 1 July Cabelas gave 10% or thereabouts.
I hope they loose some business over this policy.
Regards, FM
Maybe if enough of us bitch it will go back to how it was before.

Re: Cabela;s no longer gives discount

Really? I wonder if my local Cabela's got the memo. I was in there just a couple weeks ago and when I walked in the door, one of the greeters asked if I was in the military or a veteran. When I replied that I was, he told me to tell the cashier when leaving to get a discount. I didn't so I couldn't say if it was just him or not.

Not sporting goods, but Lowes will discount Vets if you show ID at the register (including VA card).

It works out well for them too, because of this I buy a lot of items there for my family and friends as well as my own household.

I think companies that favor us Vets should be rewarded with our business wherever/whenever possible.

you'd really be suprised at some of them that do but dont advertise it, my wife asks for it at every place we go and I'm amazed at some of the stores that have a 10% discount

Re: Cabela;s no longer gives discount

Cabela's is fairly worthless unless you catch them clueless about the worth of something in their Bargain Caves, on their used rifle/shotgun racks, or right between the holidays and spring fishing when they're hard up for money. Other than that, I use their gimme coupons when they expose a loss-leader to sale and I can get something cheap.

Generally speaking, they're not so much destination outdoors stores as they're theme parks along the interstates for kid-weary travelers who cajole their ankle-biters to behave in the car with fudge, kettle corn, stuffed animals, a walk through the aquarium, and the implied threat of the displayed taxidermy. Most of their management is squarely in the Fudd camp, and many of their employees are quite clueless about what they sell. Frankly, the last time I made the hour-plus pilgrimage to our "local" one, the help were rude and insulting.

BFMF Go give it a try again.
They will tell you, So Sorry G.I.
Home Depot gives a cut.
I do lots of business there.
I am going to return the rod I just bought from Cabelas, not because of this, it just isn't what I thought it would be and cost a bunch. I will replace it at Bass Pro, so there is one sale gone.
Let Cabelas know what you think.

Re: Cabela;s no longer gives discount

"Cabelas Hometown Heros" event is usually twice a year. They offer employee pricing for LE, fire, EMS, active duty military, and veterans. The actual discount varies from 5- 20% in my experience. I'll try to remember to give notice next time it's offered- normally first part of November.

That's ok. I never go out of my way to ask for a military/veteran discount. I don't ask for special treatment, nor do I feel entitled it.

I'm just a normal citizen now...

BFMF Ya I am good with that.
All of us are just Uncle Sugar's Chumps either now or in the past.
I know of several guys deploying to Afgan now and or Iraq in the past that went to Cabela's to get things to make things better or easier than what was available through issue.
I think they deserve a cut, a huss, a break.
My main thing is if they(Cabela's) used this as an advertisement in the past to sell stuff they should stand behind it now.
Just my 2 cents worth.
