Anyone have one of these? If i understand it right it is similar to the TR with a few exceptions. Online price is 399. Not to bad! Here are a few pics I ended up with off cabelas website. I like the look of this for a trainer and something to get some cheap trigger time!

Hmmm... rather intersting.

If they made this in 16", I would ditch the brake and rail and use it as a suppressor host for sure.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I have to say I like this better than the TR. I agree with you though the break would have to go. I think my shoulder can take the recoil. Hopefully someone has one and can give a decent review. If so, I'm all in.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

That's the way I understand it. Wonder if the break is bolted on or threaded? Not a bad deal at all. To bad I live no where close to a cabelas! What's the best way to go about buying one of these for me if the closest store is 3 to 4 hours away and out of state? Problem is I always get hit with a 3 day wait so its not like my wife and I can just pack the kids up and make a day trip of it. Thoughts

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

Saw one at the Cabelas in Buda the other day. Didnt handle it though. According to a poster on rimfirecentral, he called savage and they said the brake was sweged on and threaded at 1/2 x 20. Havent seen any in 22 though. In store price was $499.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

Did not know it was offered in 22. The plot thickens. I have to find a way to get my hands on a 22LR model. Muddawg you mind posting a few pics and a range report when you get that millet mounted? Thanks

That is about the same time I would like to pick one up. Maybe Cabelas will build a store closer to me by then!

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I don't think Cabela's offers one in .22 that comes with the scope mount and muzzle brake. I have seen them sell the Mach II TR and TRR series that is basically the same less the mount and brake. I may be wrong though.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I purchased one of these two weeks ago in .17HMR. I was wondering what the model designation was so I got online and looked at the Savage website. Savage doesnt show this gun in their lineup. I didnt realize it was a Cabelas exclusive. Ive got good tactical rings and a Leupold Mark 4 M3 30mm side focus scope on it.

The muzzle break didnt readily unscrew. I will look into that further when I have some time.

Take a look in the bolt action forum. There is a post called remington 700 police 338 lapua rifles. In there you will find instructions on how they are removing the factory muzzle breaks by applying a little heat.

Thankyou. I will check it out and report back here on my results. It may take a week or so before I will have a chance to get to it.

Let's see some better pics than offered on cabelas website!

Also a review and range report would be GREAT. How rigid is the stock, how smooth is the action, does it appear to be a MKII action, what's the weight, is the stock synthetic or wood??? I would love to put my hands on one! Also did you get the online price of 399 or have to pay the store price that's been rumored at 499?

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

New to this so bear with me.

I haven't decided which optics I'm going with (Tasco mil dot possibly) so it might be a while before I shoot it. Pics should not be a problem. The price was $499, I was not able to find the rumored $399 net price. The stock is a stiff composite in OD green and the total wight is about seven and half pounds. This is my first Savage, so I'm not sure which action it has but it is fairly smooth and the factory AccuTrigger is a little heavy but crisp (RFC has lots of info on making the AccuTrigger even better and I believe a drop-in may also be available) and includes a nice oversized bolt knob. Pics later if my camera will download...

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I was unable to find a .22 listed anywhere, so I went to my semi-local Cabela's and asked about it and they handed it to me. Got lucky I guess. Maybe a phone call to your Cabela's.

Good luck!

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I really want to get a mkII now... I don't like the feel of the boyds stock, so I'll get a fv and put a karstens on it.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

Finally had a chance to shoot mine (.17hmr).

In typical savage fashion, the metal work seems unfinished with its shargp edges and burrs. I like to take a stone to the edges. I cant seem to get the magazine to insert and remove smoothly. Ive smoothed the edges and corners, but it still has terrible engagement. I dont understand why everybody talks so highly of the accutrigger. I really dont like it. Mine has alot of creep. I have installed a Leupold Vari X III 6.5-24x with AO and I used a Sinclair type F bipod, which I highly recommend. I roughed her in at 50 yards then moved out to 100. I gave it 25 break in shots with a good cleaning after every shot using cheap CCI TNT's. She dialed in fine, but I was seeing alot of fliers. I then started with 17gr Hornady vmax. This grouped so well, i had to start using pasters over the hole after every shot because it was creating a ragged hole and I wanted to be certain where the bullet was impacting. I still saw a flier about every 5th round that would put the group at 5/8" at 100 yrds. Overall, an awesome rifle with fantastic varmint potential. Tomorrow, I will introduce her to the varmint community behind the shop. I think she will make a big hit.

I havent tried to remove the muzzle brake yet. I had to see how she would group before spending any extra time on her. I see now that she is worth the time, so I will tackle this next.

They wouldn't even deal with me on a trade with cash on a rifle. Had a weatherby with 60 rounds down the tube (22-250 sub-moa)and weatherby dealt rings and they tried screwing me for 450 bucks on the value plus I was giving cash towards one of their guns.

They don't value high paying customers let alone the average joes with prices like $23 for fed. Bulk packs....prices went up but come on....</div></div>

I just purchased two high dollar rifles from them. I saw a third rifle, a weatherby .223 SVM. which they were asking $1550 for. I have a Weatherby Mark V Accumark .30-378WM with 3 rounds down the tube, high dollar talley rings and bases as well as dies which i wanted to trade in on the .223. They wanted me to throw in $450 cash. That has kind of soured me on the store.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

It's available in 22lr or .17hmr. That's the only calibers the exclusive tactical model comes in. If they made it in 22mag, I'd be all over it like a fat kid on a cupcake! Guess the 17hmr will have to do.....

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

The only differences I see between this and the MkII Tr is:
Color of the stock
Muzzle Brake(pointless?)
1pc base.

Is there something else I'm missing?
I got my MkII TR for $389 and added a R/T 25moa base for $40.
Other than the brake, what else are you getting for $499?

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

Well I picked up my cabelas exclusive 17hmr yesterday. I like it a lot.....but, on the cabelas website said the stock was synthetic. The know-it-all behind the counter said it was synthetic. But it is indeed wood with a texture, painted green. It wasn't too big a deal for me, but thinking that it had a synthetic stock was the only reason I went with the cabelas model. Still like the gun a lot though.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

When I saw this rifle, I just went ahead and purchased it in 22LR. I contacted Savage to ask them about the particulars, and after giving them the serial number they confirmed much of what you are saying on here. It is a wood stock that is textured and painted. I beleive it is the same stock as on the MKII TR. The rail has no cant to it, so I replaced it with a Rimfire Technologies 25 MOA model. I also installed a Shooter's Ridge 3"-9" bipod on it and got some 10 round MKII magazines. The 5 round magazine it comes with is just too small, and you spend all your range time reloading it. Savage said that the muzzle brake was threaded and sweged on. I believe the 1/2"-20 that someone else stated is right. I mounted a Millett TRS-1 in Burris XTR medium rings and have been doing load testing out to 50 yards. The gun shoots good, but I can't say I am a good enough shot to be able to give a range report. I will say that it has proven to like the Wolf Match Target best so far. Still want to try some Eley in it. I am pleased with the purchase and it will make a good trainer. No need to post pictures as mine looks excatly like the others you see on here. Once I get it dialed in and get up the nerve, it may see some Krylon.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

I took MkII TR to the range today with some Wolf Match Target and was hitting 4" hanging plates at 200yds pretty cosistently.
At 100 yds I was able to keep them inside an inch when the wind died down. I've also had good results with SK, CCI Subsonics and RWS. I haven't had a chance to try any Eley in it yet.

It would be nice if the brake on the Cabelas model was threaded on with a thread that would be compatible with a supressor. I think that would be a nicer feature than just the brake itself.

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

i just got one of these cabelas exclusives in 17hmr they have at ton left at their west virginia store just call em pay for it and have your ffl faxed its 25 s&h, i put a harris brms bipod on it, weaver rings, and am looking for a awesome scope for this 17 hmr.any suggestions

Re: Cabelas exclusive Savage 17hmr. Who has one???

It's just a MKII-TR with an OD paint instead of typical black. They do come in 22LR. They all came with different bases at my Cabela's. And the muzzle break is useless on a rimfire... Unless you're going to put a suppressor on it (and it's probably threaded wrong anyways) it's a waste of money over the standard MKII-TR
