So I spent the last couple of days with Brian Whalen of Colorado Precision Rifle at the Blue Steel Ranch in NM. On Monday Brian introduced me to his Caliber Matrix and we did a video on the subject.
Initially, I posted a single image on Instagram showing the chart. And the internet cracked under the stress of seeing what we had. The white board in the video is what was posted so you can reference that...
after I shot the video I took a second look at it and adjusted my thoughts a bit and changed a few numbers
This is not intended to be set in stone but rather a bit more personal. As an example, I would not consider load stability personally. I tend to shoot factory ammo so it's not a consideration of mine. If I was more intuned with reloading, I might want to consider this aspect of the matrix. For me, that column would be about the availability of factory ammo. What are the costs, options, etc?
The point being, individualize this for you and your needs. Make it your own.
It's really about starting the conversation and guiding a new or immediate shooter down a simpler path.
All about starting the conversation, not ending one by making blanket statements, cause that never works.
