I'm looking for a GPS type app that measures distance. I've tried a couple that are alright, but want to make sure that I'm not missing out on a really good one. I don't mind paying for the app either, I actually prefer to, I hate adds. This is for an Android phone. Thanks.

How do you want to measure distance? With Back Country Navigator you can just select points on the map and it will give you the distance between each point.

Motionx. Heavily used by members of my USAR team. Has a great measuring tool and you can pre download Topo maps to overlay your GPS coordinants to alliw for offline use. We toss our Garmin team issued GPS units aside when in country and just run phones when possible.

Is the for iPhone, because I'm not finding it?

I use "gps tape measure" .

It is a free android app. I use it to set up steel stands at 700+ to find rough range.
It usually comes in with 5 yds, sometimes better.

Just click at shooting position, and drive out to wherever you want, as it gives
active, on the fly distance.. so we use atv's to ride out and set up, noting the range
at each spot. Worked great for us setting up at 740, 940 & 1066 yds.

Have since bought a Leica 1600, but I still use the app to speed set up, as the yardage
is actively presented on my smartphone.

I'll download this one also. Works differently than what I had in mind, but I will definitely use this one. I'm sure this app does require a data signal, which might be a problem in some areas. Thanks.

Yes, my apologies. It is an Iphone app. I was not aware that it was not availiable on android. Look at Gaia gps. It is very similar.

No problem. I'll check out Gaia GPS.
