Re: Can you make a take down rifle?
WHY want a rifle that breaks down? Simple answers, some of which actually apply to me personally at the monent:
- Your car has a trunk lid small enough that manouvering a 50" plus rifle through the lid opening is a pain
- You live in an RV where storage space and manouveirng room are both at a premium, and where enclsoed clear storage spaces over 50 inches long are rare and treasured
- You travel with the rifle sometimes, and reserving 50" of clear space in a loaded trunk is hard, and hauling a 50+" piece of baggae into a hotel is both inconvenient and pretty much announces to the world that you have a substantial firearm that is going to be in a relatively poorly secured environment while you go to dinner
- Folding rifle stocks are incredibly expensive, especially when a "factory" option
- Cleaning a rifle on a typical table or workbench is a LOT easier when the assemblies being cleaned are both smaller and weighs less.
Takedown rifles are not a "new" thing. In the 1800s, Winchester made plenty of them. I suspect the reasons for wanting one have not changed dramtically in the last 125 years.
