    Hello to all,

Im about to buy a another rifle and Id like to get some opinions on these 3 rifles. I just want to see if Im missing anything and make sure that I get the best one for what Im wanting to do with it.

I am wanting a heavy short barrel (20"-22") rifle in .223 or similar that I can use as a carry/call gun (predator hunting) thats short and lighter than the full size 26" heavy barrell models that I already have. I have a Savage Mod 12FV in a 26" heavy BBL and a Rem 700 SPS-V with a 24" heavy BBL. Both of these guns are long and heavy when walking/calling and in and out of vehicles all day. This will mainly be used for hunting predators, but I also want something I can throw on a bipod and shoot longer distance targets with also. I dont want to have to replace the stock either so Im kinda staying away from the lower end models and choosing something that come from the factory with an aluminum bedding block
    Choices are:
    1.) Savage Mod 10 Presicion Carbine: 20" BBL in .223 with a 4rd DM and a Accu-Stock and Accu-trigger
2.) Rem 700 LTR: We all know the features on this rifle
3.) Rem 700 XCR Compact tacticle

Any other suggestions that maybe Im overlooking??
Pleae let me know and thanks in advance.

I bought a LTR. The main reason was it felt better and seemed to fit me better than some of the others I'd looked at.

Like you mentioned it is lighter and also feels more balanced to me then a 24, 26, or longer rifle. The stock is decent and rigid enough to not need replacement until I'm really ready. Aftermarket parts availability was another deciding factor. Another but more secondary reason I chose the LTR is the aesthetics of the little rifle. Personally I really like the look of the fluted barrel.

I don't have anything against the other rifles you listed and have owned several others myself. There's just something about the LTR that feels right to me.

I like the LTR also, I was just hoping to get out for less than or right at $1000-$1200 on this rig with a medium grade optic. The savage 10pc looks and sounds really good, but so does the SPS-tacticle with the houge alumn pillar bedded stock. I'll prolly end up getting the LTR, but I just wanted to hear some others opinions first incase I was getting tunnel vision and not seeing everything.

As for the light weight AR....I have a couple, but I just don't really like hunting with them. I've tried it, but just never really stuck with me. When I open the safe to go calling/hunting I always grab the bolt gun.

you can get the Savage 10fcp dbm with a Choate Tactical Stock at Cabelas for $649 right now. It's in the new sale paper, I picked one up last month and it's was WELL worth the money!

For a light weight calling rifle, look at the Rock River Arms Coyote. I have one with the 16" barrel that I've put a NightForce 2.5-10 scope on. RRA guarantees 3/4MOA and it will do that or better with FGMM 55gr or TAP 55gr. Light and handy.
