Can't believe this worked

Can't remember if I mentioned it above or not, but I have one of the 16" AGP's also, in my dead barrel pile. I think it went 11-12k before accuracy became unacceptable. Not that it was ever a Bartlien, but they seem to shoot pretty well across my two AGP samples.

What kind of accuracy were you getting with the 16” AGP? I’m very interested in this barrel but there is almost no info out there about it.

I’ve got a Criterion Core 16 that I’m happy with but the benefits of a reliable rifle length gas system on a 16” barrel is very tempting. I’m curious how this barrel stacks up to higher end barrels like Criterion in terms of accuracy and quality.

Hey - thanks for bringing back this thread! I never read the later posts. Just a follow-up to my experience. I still have the upper (got an upper from the company). Ran great, I swapped out to a Compass lake 12.5" SBR for Sniper Adventure Challenge, but the upper shot great when I was running it, but I wanted more compact and can give up velocity for the trade-off. Never had any problems with it, and it still shoots accurately. I get sub-MOA groups out of my 14.5" upper, and its not one of their "match" barrels.

With 55gr blaster ammo it was typically 1.4-1.8 moa, 77gr handloads were .8-1 moa. I definitely had some .6 groups but I wouldn't call that the average. Tried some Hornady 62gr BTHP's that were sub moa too. So nothing amazing but respectable for the price of the barrel. I never tried fine tuning a load for it, maybe there's potential for more.

Criterion has a 16" RLGS barrel also, if you like Criterions already. Rainier has one in their Select barrel line as well. Odin has one too.

Hey tony the tiger man.. tell me more about these angled ports. You say it adds dwell time?

I believe you mentioned before - gas from the distal.. is not an issue. Some of the earliest machine guns and automatics used gas positions just as this barrel.

I ask about the ports, because I am giving thought to ordering a precision blank and turning it. Thinking 18" +1 gas on 7.62nato. Was going to opt for 20", but the 50 to 100fps really is not much of a selling point.

Need to chat with Manson about a suggested reamer.

So, any more insight is largely appreciated.

Thank you

It does add dwell time, although how much that effect it actually has is dubious. It adds maybe .25" of dwell, or acts like a rifle -1/4" gas system if that makes more sense.
I just buy the things and think I have a pretty good idea of how they work, but I don't claim to be the engineer who designed them.
Since I started this thread I've also assembled another 5.56 rifle with a 17" rifle +1 gas barrel with a .102 ish? gas port and it works great.
I'm no expert on large frame guns but I theorize your 18" RGLS +1" 7.62 would work fine, and I've thought about building one myself quite a bit lately.

I've got a rainier UM 7.62 16" with RLGS.
Have been wondering how it will do since I have yet to shoot it.
This thread gives me hope, and I do have a adjustable gas block on it.
Did not measure the hole....no idea there.
I guess I'll see when I see huh?

Shoot it and post results!

It will spin like a top. Lot of dudes are running that. Criterion sells a barrel just like that. You missing out on very little.

I am thinking after I burn another 3000 rounds or so down this barrel.. am still on my first barrel from this receiver build. Got probably 3000 rounds down it. Is a criterion hybrid 18" rifle gas stainless nitride barrel.

Outside the barrel extension being razor sharp and getting ample amounts of brass nibbles around the ejector and under the extractor..

I am thinking a four inch long 1.25" diameter post chamber, tapering to .825" at the +1gas shoulder location. Run a .750" gasblock, with .725" from gasblock forward. Use a 1:11 twist. Trying to decide what chamber.

I have a few thousand once fired 7.62nato brass that is measuring.. 2.008" to 2.010" coal, untrimmed. From said criterion barrel.

Need to figure out a good way to remove the crimp from primer pocket. Been wondering if a pocket reamer will do that for me. Planning to expand, neck turn, uniform flash hole and primer pocket. Run some trimmed and pointed sierra 150gr jhp. To match my 5x prism scope's bdc.

With the option to switch up for 168gr matchkings and a bigger glass.

Oh choices - fuck my life.

Pardon the rant, if you get yours spun before mine - lemme know how it goes.
