Can't find thread about quiet buffer and spring for AR

My search-fu is weak. I recall a thread a few months back about a buffer and spring assembly that was quiet as compared to that metal vibrating clangy sound from regular buffers and springs. It focused mainly around a 300BLK upper and running it suppressed. Can anyone help me out?

And as long as we're on the subject... is it really necessary to change this out when running a 300BLK suppressed??? I plan on having 2 different uppers to swap out on the lower. A .223 wylde 8 twist upper with adjustable gas block, and a 300BLK 7 twist upper with adjustable gas block which will be run sub and super sonic. I don't want to hear that annoying claaannnnnggggg.... when suppressed.

Forgive my ignorance as I am a bolt guy who is taking on his first AR project.

And if you see me heading full speed into a ditch, please let me know.

Thanks in advance Hiders.

I haven't tried the JP setup, but I do use Tubbs Flatwire Springs in a few of my ARs and they're much quieter than standard. No twwwwaaannnngggg involved with them.

I put a jp spring in my PRS stock. Shooting suppressed its nice not to have to hear twang of the the spring. Their expencieve but they are quiet.

Thanks Redmanss, I'll check that out also.

Gents... I also recall from the thread that it helped with recoil somehow??? Does anyone remember if it was the JP or Tubbs?

That's it!!!!! Glad you linked it. I will call them and talk to Ben to get his opinion on the spring since I want to be able to run 223/556 and 300BLK both suppressed and unsuppressed.

Thanks!

Bill

When I ran my 16" and 12.2" 300BLK (Noveske barrel, pistol-length gas) unsuppressed and suppressed, I absolutely HAD to swap springs and buffers for reliable operation.

Unsuppressed - Wolfe XP spring and T2 buffer (16").
Suppressed - Standard carbine spring and H buffer (16").

Come to think of it, the same combo worked with the 12.2" as well.

I'm running a Tactical Springs Blue (enhanced power) Spring, and an H2 Buffer and get no noise watsoever

*I do keep Oil on the Buffer Spring, and a light coat inside the Buffer Tube....maybe that Helps.

Thanks all.

Again... Forgive my ignorance as this is my first time tinkering with an AR, but won't an adjustable gas block eliminate the need for the different springs? Or are different springs still needed regardless of regulating the gas?

I think that basically if a .300blk is done right, it should not Cycle when shooting Subsonics, but when the Suppressor is added, it should then fully Cycle.

As far as Springs go, give Alan @ Tactical Springs a call...super helpful guy who will spend time on the phone with you about this very subject.
