Yes he took it without permission but that's definitely different than sticking a gun in someone's face and forcing them out of their car and taking off with it. It didn't warrant a 100 plus mph chase putting innocent passengers and the public at risk. 99 out of a hundred the car would have been brought back to the father as soon as it was low on gas.

Did the felon do something to you . . . or someone else?

Will they catch the felon later . . . and what will happen to him when they do?

Were the innocent people killed by the felon . . . or someone (anyone) else?


Like most instances it is very difficult to make laws "black and white" (NOT talking about racism here).

VENTING:
I’m not a big fan of Islamic Justice, having lived in Saudi 25 years ago. BUT, the punishment is pretty swift and sure(in the low/no political cases). Convicted murderers go thru about 6 appeals in as many weeks, and there is the final appeal to the victim‘s family. But seldom more than 3 months after conviction to wacking.
Theft is similar, without restitution and having lost all appeals, wave goodbye one last time to your hand.
And ya know what? The swiftness of punishment allows store owners to leave their shops open / unattended during prayer times.
Try this for 6 months in the US and all this shit goes away.
