Cartridges for plinking suggestions

I have a dedicated 30BR bench gun (about 18 pounds.) it will regularly shoot in the high .1s and low .2s. many groups in the .0s. It's a Krieger with a .332 neck shooting 112gr hottenstien bullets. I've contemplated a 6ppc many times, but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze givem what I already have with the 30BR and the endless brass and barrel life.

I'm just looking for a cartridge that I can shoot cheaply. I'll buy Lapua brass all day if it's available, but other than that for this build, Id like some cheap bullets and low powder consumption.

Ok so you know what's up in this area.

Are you still leaning to 6x45?

From what I'm seeing the PPC has been tried many a time in a magfed set up which is what I want, and it doesn't work well. I think it's between a 6x45 and a 223. I have 300 pieces of lapua 222 rem that I contemplated as well, but I'll probably save that for a bench gun as well.

Jack neary told me Lapua 223 rem should be on the shelves in late Feb or early March, so I'll probably go that route.

The ppc is a .445 bolt head diameter, there didn’t used to be good mags for that. The mdt Valkyrie mags may have made mag feeding a possibility now. Haven’t ever tested it myself, just looking at the company it keeps.

Interesting point on the mags. Also, Sako used to or still does make a 6ppc that fed fine from what I've read in the past. Perhaps some more research is needed.

If you want something *more* than .22LR, the undisputed plinking king:
.17 HMR is a blast out to 200. Low recoil, flat trajectory, and pops stuff decently. Serves as an exceptional little varmint/bunny blaster in the real world.
9mm PCC. Low recoil, low heat, common/inexpensive ammo, suppresses well, and feels like an AR. Can serve as a good option for use inside enclosures.
Can second the 17HMR . A ball at 200 yards, shooting at 2” gong and/or Daisy 2” breakable clays.

Great for plinking and cheap for reloading, the .223 AI or 6mm ARC would be top-dogs. 6.5 Grendel would be great in a bolt-action, as well. But honestly, 6mm ARC beats the 6.5 Grendel. Having owned a Grendel for many years, I will admit this... If the 6 ARC and 115gr 6mm bullets had come out before the 6.5 Grendel, there would be no reason I would own a Grendel.
