i know...it's petty, like 3 bucks per hundred difference in price but still. Same compound, the only difference as explained by a guy behind the counter is that they are made by one of the more experienced tech's on the line? More consistent perhaps?

and what the heck is with a tub of varget at Gander being 30 bucks? I really was hoping to get some material today but i have a little shopping to do now. gander's bullet selection was pretty lousy too GRR...

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

For .223 I've used CCI Small Pistol, CCI Small Rifle, and Federal Small Rifle Match Primers. The only difference I can tell is the price; $2 / $3 / $4.50 per 100.

A tub of Varget? Is that a pound? I bought a pound six months ago and it was $28.

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

what happened to 19 bucks a pound? even 23 which i've seen in the past year or so...granted i'm new to this but the sticker shock just kicked in. It's a good thing y'all tell me this is fun cus it's gonna take a while to get my loads down to 14 bucks a box LOL.

We just won't tell the wife how much money i'm not saving by reloading

i'm sooooo whipped. at least she eats my cookin'

at roughly 150 rounds per pound and 100 rounds per box of bullets, and primers @ $5/100, looking at 135/ 300 rounds? sounds about like $45 cents per round or so? thats 30 a pound for powder and 30 per box of 100 bullets. sounds about right, that comes out to just under 10 bucks a box, $4 per box cheaper than federal.

oh..then gas for driving around and finding all the components so i don't have to pay hazmat fees for all the shipping of powder and primers

i'm done...just wanted to rant. I don't ALWAYS bitch this much, just when i've had 8 cups of coffee and no food today. must eat soon...

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

i pity you guys, 1lb varget is 21.25 and 148.95/8lb at my local reloading distributor and he had plenty in stock when i bought my 8lber 3 weeks ago. the benchrest primers were more pricy than last time tho, br4's were 44.95/k and br2's were 46.95/k

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

Shopping at Gander for loading components automatically nullifies your rant.

Shop smarter and life won't be so difficult.

Just sayin...

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

I've never noticed the difference between CCI and CCI BR2's or a difference between F210 and F210M's...

I still buy the 210M's though.... I had one not ignite in a match in OK last year which makes you wonder..

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

captain,
at the juniper swamp match last weekend, one of the guys in my squad had 12 ftf's and his son had 7 ftf's and it was a new batch of cci's br2's with 5 duds in one 3 shot event

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

That was CCI's? Not good. I have only had one 210M not ignite on me ever and it was at that match. I showed it to Terry Cross and he said it happens all the time to him. So I don't know what the answer is.

Yes! I'm spotting for him, and he ejected the round right under my nose. I can see the firing pin stirke on the primer and the bullet still in the case. I was waiting for the BOOM under my nose. It was a little tense there for a minute!

Re: CCI Benchrest primers vs. standard?

Don't forget about the little "B" they print/stamp on every primer. That's gotta be worth something.

I'm headed to the range this weekend to chrono a bunch of new loads I'm tweaking, if I had any non-benchrest style primers I would load them up to try and see if there is a variance in speed/consistency/whatever between them and the benchrest. Maybe I can find a 100 pack local and try it in the name of science.

Have any further info? I've got a lot of primers from 08-09 I'm using.

I actually read an interesting article on this just today. Right here.

Nothing about accuracy, but there appears to be a difference with the specs for small rifle primers in terms of pressure capacity (based on a little logical jump). For large rifle primers, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference.
