Little here and a little there
zink14 & I made our way out to his ranch this past weekend and got the drop on some unlucky pigs.

We were firing from a cliff elevated about 100ft or so, firing at a 90' angle down, 18-20mph winds at a range of maybe 200 or so yards and the critters were hauling ass

you have some nice toys - thats some pretty serious hardware to shoot piggies. I was hoping to make it out there for some more piggy whackin' before it gets too hot, but things got too busy here and I doubt I'll get out again until Dove season - I miss Texas.

Doorkicker, Where these two hogs just passing through or did you guys have some bait on the ground? I was wondering what type bullets/cal you guys were using. I have had good luck using 180gr Nosler accubonds with my 300 WSM.

The 6.5 Grendel is my next rifle build for hogs in a AR platform. It seems like a real good hog caliber. I have killed a few hogs with my AR223, just want a little more punch.

cool,

but based on your description your range would be about a 100ft not 200 yards. just hackin on ya, good times men.

Re: Central TX hog hunt

Nice pigs DK. Try an assault group tactic next time around. A shooter support element to overwatch the assault element. The last time I hunted in Tx, me and some friends were watching a cow herd mosey across a field when we spotted three pigs. We moved in on them and it was like something from a Far Side cartoon. Cows going one way slowly, and three pigs going the other a bit faster, and I could hear them thinking out loud, "we're just little cows...we're just little cows."

I took off running after them and then went to kneeling in close. My support element, Preston Pritchett of (SURGEON) provided overwatch and killed what got away.

I felt like a king...
