So I just recently got my rebarreled SPR back from the gunsmith and decided I wanted to go with a 2-stage trigger. One of the guys I shoot with recommended the Mod22 from CG Xtreme, and after trying his I was sold. So I called and talked with Tom about getting one of his Win M70 models modified to work in the SPR action. He said it would be no problem and that it would take about a week to get it built and out. Awesome.
Two weeks later, I'm a little concerned that it might have been lost in the mail (my local PO isn't exactly a poster-boy for competency), so I follow up with a call. I ask what the status of my order is and Tom tells me that it is "on the bench and should go out middle of next week". Ok so shit happens and things take longer when they are custom made-no big deal.
Two weeks later: still waiting. I call Tom and ask why the status of my order is..."it's on the bench and should be out no later than middle of next week".........I tell him that is great and all but that is verbatim what he said 2 weeks before. He looks up the PO and assured me that it would ship by the end of that week. I'm aggravated that I have caught him in the run-around routine twice now but maybe since I have called him out on it things will start to get done.
So here I am three weeks after that phone call and still no trigger. I have been unsuccessful in reaching Tom by phone over the past several business days and have left voicemails that have gone ignored. Now I'm pissed. I am a very understanding individual and I understand that quality takes time--but I have a very low tolerance for being lied to. I feel I paid way too much to get shat on like this as a customer and am seriously considering just filing a fraud claim with paypal because he won't pick up the phone to either make it right or let me cancel the order. Obviously I would rather just have what I paid for almost 2 months ago but it seems that my options are narrowing down.
Has anyone else had trouble with these guys? Do they have a presence on the Hide? Thanks in advance
UPDATE: So after a half dozen unanswered phone calls after the most recent missed deadline, I send an email through his website. I get a reply back that evening (Tuesday) saying "We just finished it. Will ship tomorrow. We've been running about 4 weeks. Thanks". Ok great. Maybe this time it isn't bullshit.
The next day (Wednesday) I receive another email saying "Win trigger is done. Will ship tomorrow or Fri at the latest."
Wait what? I thought it was going out today...but whatever. So I send a reply back confirming that it was the Win model that was modified to work on the FN SPR action (God forbid I wait 2 months and wade through all this bullshit to finally get it and have to send it back into the abyss).
No reply. Oh well, I'll look for it in a couple days--now I'm getting excited again.
Well it is now the following Wednesday and it would appear that I have been lied to yet again. SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!
At this point I don't even need the trigger in hand to give an accurate review of it and the shady-ass company that makes it. If you want a good product and customer support that stands behind it:
BUY SOMETHING ELSE
It doesn't matter how good the end product is, if you got treated like this after purchasing something as overpriced as this then it's not even worth fucking with.
And for all those preaching patience--that is not the issue at hand here. Custom products take time, I get that and I could give a shit less if something is going to take months to get--but in that case don't tell me it will only be a week or two, and for shitfucking sake don't goddamn tell me it has shipped when it hasn't. This hate-rant is about the principle of the thing. So that being said, I will resume calling and emailing and give it until the end of the week before I just cut it loose altogether and buy a trigger from a company that actually gives a damn.
FINAL UPDATE: It's here. It actually exists. When I opened the mailbox Friday afternoon, I saw the box and nearly shat in shock and disbelief. I heard a rumor going around that it was delivered by Big Foot riding off into the sunset on top of the Loch Ness Monster but all the pictures are really too fuzzy to tell. I tore open the box, dumped out the packing peanuts, and there it was...
The wrong one.
Science says that it is physically impossible to shit a cinder block; I now have proof otherwise.
Lying before me on my kitchen island was a CGX Mod22 for a Post-64 Win Mod 70. I knew this because I have a photographic memory and prior to placing my order, I had researched this model and happened upon a thread (on the SH, no less) that had included pictures of the differences in the Post-64 and SPR models. Basically it amounts to the SPR having a smaller hole for the transfer lever resulting the the larger Post-64 trigger to not fit. No sweat, I'll just call Tom and have him send me the correct transfer lev....oh wait, he doesn't answer the phone anymore. Damn. Looks like I'm on my own to make this thing work.
I have a dremel tool and a bachelor's degree in engineering--this ends tonight.
Now let's fast forward 3 hours and get to the part where I have everything modified, installed, and adjusted to my liking. The trigger is great. Mechanically, I would recommend it over anything else I have tried. Everything else I have said still stands though and to those who read this and are still on the fence, the only advice I have to offer is to approach this purchase like buying an NFA item. Basically, send off a bunch of money and forget about it.
So now it's over. I have had some time to dryfire and shoot with the new trigger quite a bit and I have to grudgingly say that although I almost blew a coronary along the way, it....was worth it. I feel like something is missing in my life now though--like I should be rushing home to check the mail every day. Kinda like the feeling you get the day after Christmas when you wake up and see the tree with nothing under it--all played out with nothing to look forward to anymore. It's the damnedest thing...
