Chassis's ???

I've always leaned towards the traditional stocks and never really liked the idea of a chassis, but lately I've been looking more into them and am interested in what hey could offer above a traditiona. So i am looking for some advice and how they compare to each other in quality, features, and functionality. The ones that have caught my eye are the XLR Evolution with the tactical stock, and the KRG Whiskey 3 with the folding stock. How do these rank with some other? Or what others should I be looking at. It would be for either a R700 or Defiance Deviant in a 6.5CM or other similar calibers(switch barrel) will be for target/ tactical competition.

I just got a gen 2 Whiskey 3 chassis for my Tikka and love it. Other than the folding stock option the other reason I went with the KRG is that there is nothing over the top of the barrel like the XLR so you can get the scope closer to the bore.

I just completed a build with the AICS chassis. I am a traditionalist like you, but reviews, style and functionality lured me in. The real beauty of this rig is it's designed for the Remington 700 action specifically, and is simply a "bolt and go" system. No bedding required. This is a great feature that opens up possibilities later. I firmly believe the price point is way too high, but after looking a bit deeper, you just don't see many owners parting with them. It's an ingenious design, an all aluminum block milled to accept a barreled action, then skins for handling. To this point I'm very satisfied, and have no regrets.

Love this XLR chassis. I've got it dialed in to fit me perfectly. It actually makes getting prone fairly comfortable and easy for this old feller.

No bottom metal, no bedding.

Craig was great to talk with, price was reasonable, and he hit the deadline he promised me. I have shot it once and the difference between a stock, even a very nice one, and a chassis type setup is unbelievable.

I started playing with the Rock Solid Chassis and I have to say Todd has a winner there. Not to take away from any other chassis, but he does a great job making a solid Chassis.
His chassis also fits a nice variety of actions, as an example very few will fit the old style Bighorn Action as the lug is forward, his allows the Bighorn to drop in. (I did bed behind it)

Dropping it in and tiny bit of bedding and this was a very accurate chassis.

Ashbury is another extremely versatile chassis and the new versions are priced below $1000 and will interchange with their most expensive sections later so you can add too it.

For weight saving and competition shooting, besides the Rock Solid the XLR is very popular. They make a nice unit.

And I am definitely a fan of the AI Chassis, I just like the feel, though they do not drop in as easily as the others. Depending on the rifle you may have to work it a bit. Many consider the AI and Ashbury's to be very heavy, so consider that.

I like the XLR for my competition rifle because it is lighter. Being able to get the scope closer to the bore makes no difference when using a chassis. They have an adjustable cheek making it a moot point.

Eliseo and don't look back! It uses a recoil disk for even recoil distribution and the recoil pulse is directly in line with the buttstock which gives you very minimal muzzle rise. I love mine.

Any plans on trying the folder version, or adapting yours for it, when its released? I am looking at buying a chassis here before the summer hits (or at least get it ordered) and am looking at the XLR, McRee folder, and the RS. If the RSC came as a folder right now I think it would win out.

If I had it to do over again, weight would definitely played a role. My latest custom came in several pounds heavier than I had originally calculated with the AICS 2.0. I have no one to blame but myself for not doing more homework beforehand.

Bought a rifle that was already in an XLR chassis and really like it. If I had to order an XLR Chassis, it would be the Carbon Fiber Evolution chassis. He doesn't have it listed on his website but is IS AVAILABLE. Also, I have a rifle in an AI Chassis with the Viperskins and it's totally awesome. What I really like about that is I have a set of skins in Coyote Brown and another set that I will be sending out to have hydro dipped. In a couple minutes I can have a completely different look...not so easy to do with any other rifle.

Good list. As for my choice.. I am getting XLR right now.. JAE-700 is my ultimate must have (but last i checked its a year wait and I don't have my remmy yet). In all honesty I shop chassis systems by look first .. if they aren't good they'll get flamed to hell anyways..

Your choices are two of the top picks... you'll be good either way.. its really just up to you now..

I tried an XLR. It is very well made and the rifle shot well with it but I just prefer a traditional stock after giving it a try so I am selling it.
