Fieldcraft Cheap/Improvised Gear- what have you found?

Re: Cheap/Improvised Gear- what have you found?

Ditto on Craigslist. Also, try freecycle in your community - though you must register for it. I've redone much of my pickup with free parts from those sights, not to mention exchanging baby stuff for the kiddies when they grow out of things.

Re: Cheap/Improvised Gear- what have you found?

I found a 4 inch aluminum teflon coated frying pan that is handy as hell. First of all nothing sticks to it, it heats quickly and evenly, and it doesn't weigh much at all. And you can normally cook with it right on a campfire.
It will cook one meal, or 2 small meals like squirrel, spam, or whatever you have. I have also used it to boil water and it does that quickly right over the campfire.
The other great thing is that it is so easy to clean and in a hurry, you can just wipe it out and go. It is much more sanitary than a rusty old tin can!
