Have you guys been able to compare the newer Brute Box coolers that Ceylon is selling? They seem to be getting good reviews and I've been considering grabbing one for hunting and camping myself...
I'll chime in with my YETI experience.
First off, the coleman extreme has NOTHING on the yeti, how do I know? I own both and use both everyday. I run a survey crew and we live out of our coolers, and I mean it. When you don't have a home on the road your cooler is a life saver. I can tell you that the coleman extreme is a good cooler for the money, I've bought around 4 of em and they are all still doing great. But in terms of being tougher or better keeping ice, never. My crew mate have been wanting me to send yeti pictures I took of my cooler during my torture test that should have never happened. I drug a 65Qt about 6 miles down gravel and paved roads while it was packed full of drink, ice, and food. I cable locked it in my truck and we had it on the tailgate while we were napping (survey is all about mapping and napping) and we had an emergency at a site a few miles away from us. I sat my seat up and hauled arse to the site with everyone waving me down and laughing. When I got out I relalized we had drug the cooler the whole ways. The bottom and sides were ate up to the insulation but still holding everything great and never came open. I think it being so full is what helped it. Anyway, we put a 2part epoxy coating we use on pipelines on the rough spots and it is still holding up great and that's been about 3 years ago.
I was told that it kept ice much better than my other coolers and found it is better but not a lot better, I still put ice in mine everyday in the summer but I can skip a day if I have to.
It is super tough and we use it all the time for other stuff as it is so strong. Out in west TX we have been using it as a shooting bench a lot lately. Everything is a trade off and my hates about it is the handles and the weight. My handles will make a man out of ya. If it's full and you pick it up by yourself it drives your knuckles in the sides very painful. It needs longer handles. 2 People toting it isn't bad when you pull apart a bit when toting it. When we cook outside it is our table and we hammer our monuments together on it. It has proven to be very tough. We have the long one too (don't remember the size) 3 latches and it is great to. We leave it at the trailer for straight ice and parties and it is just as good. I went with the white ones as I felt it would be the best.
Since We keep em on trucks and 4 wheelers going down crazy rough roads and they are getting a lot of abuse I feel they are worth it easily. I mean I bought around 5-7 coolers on this same job before my yeti because of showing up to the job and its broke down the side or the lid broke off or something else. If I wasn't depending on my cooler so much and didn't have a rough job on it I wouldn't ever think of having a yeti, why would you? BUt I can tell you they are built to last.
I would buy another if I needed one but my 3 latch yeti , my 65 Qt yeti, and my coleman extreme get the job done good enough.
Buy once cry once, I realize that their are better coolers out there but so far YETI isn't dragging behind enough to matter to me.

Several years back we found out that they TRULY ARE bear proof.
Elk hunting in the Bob Marshall out of Augusta, MT. We got back in camp and between the tents and other gear being messed about and the bear scat...we knew it was a bear. Then we saw the yeti was missing.
found it about 100+ yds away, down a coulee. Other than a lot of teeth marks and scratches...none the worse for wear.
Wish I would have taken pictures just for these Yeti cooler threads.

Nuthin better than a Yeti. I've been around a long time and the stack of old coolers I've been through would stand taller than my house. I've tried
'em all, and I've never had better performance from any cooler than a Yeti. Last year in Yellowstone it lasted two full weeks with two 20 lb blocks of ice in it.
Besides, it has one feature that none of the other have: It's government-certified as a bear-proof container when two padlocks are used on it, which means that you can legally use it in bear country without having to hang your food or lug around a steel box.
Ya'll can't get too excited about the expert advise Turdcutter offers on this thread or in general. You know Yeti is the new standard. I love mine. I have a pile of "other high end coolers" that collect dust. I need some fancy stickers for mine though...

I just bought a Yeti Tundra 75 from Austin Kayak. With free shipping and a 15% discount code from Facebook, the total cost was $365. A few factors led me to the Yeti: 1) Yeti does seem to be the standard in high-end coolers. 2) The Yeti came standard with a dry goods basket. Brute charges extra for the basket. I don't know that a basket is even available for the Pelican. 3) Shipping costs raised the Pelican and the Brute to the cost of the Yeti. 4) I couldn't find a Pelican in stock. We just put a small chest freezer in the back of the pickup and a portable generator for hunts. If we stay at a motel en-route we use an extension cord on the freezer. Did numerous elk and mosse hunts that way. You can keep the Yeti, give me a Whirlpool.
$400 for a cooler that 90% of the people who buy them would never put through abuse. Hell people here whine like little bitches when their rifles get dings or scratched up. You think outside of a very small percentage, most are putting through the added abuse that makes a yeti worth it (debatable).?

Ice retention is only a very small reason to spend the money on a top tier cooler. While some of the new "extreme" coolers get close to the best, the other features are what set them apart from the colemans and igloos. Load up one of the cheapies with two elk quarters and ice, see how long those handles last that are held on with screws into plastic and styrofoam. Or the wonderful cheesy plastic latches and hinges. Heaven forbid you accidentally bump the cooler with your four wheeler on the trailer and the damn outer sheathing cracks.
Ive gone through 4 120ish qt igloos and two of the colemans in 4 years. I'll be picking up a brute or two before our annual trip to NM elk hunting. Im tired of buying cheap coolers that are rather expensive for their service life. For people who actually use their coolers the cheap shit you keep saying is just as goos is not. Plain and simple. If it eternally rides in the bed of my 50k diesel you might have a point but I doubt most of these higher caliber coolers do that.

Read this thread and then saw a 65 and a small one at a local Gander Mtn. the next day, they are expensive but REALLY well made, now something was added to the never ending list from this site . AND if you run out of ammo you can use your cooler, they are that stout, btw my coolers are pos's.
