hi everyone i hope yall can help me. i have a custom long action savage 308 win with a egw tactical picatinny rail. setting on top of the rail is a nikon gold 50mm scope with millett tactical high ring. with this set up i have to add a high cheek rest. my question is i want to buy a choate ultimate sniper stock. do you think my head will mount well on this stock with this set up or will i need a higher cheek pad? how can i tell if my rifle will clear the medium or low rings from millett? any help please!!!!!

Re: choate ultimate sniper stock

As far as your question goes with the stock fitting your head nobody can really answer that except you. If God gave us all the exact same head this world would be pretty horrifying place. Can you imagine if we all looked like Beavis and Butthead?!!! Your questions are all trial and error. Search, search, search and when you get done searching...search somemore. Look for the post in the Optics forum that says "Make a Sticky:Ring Height info". It should be on the 1st or 2nd page.

Re: choate ultimate sniper stock

I had the Ultimate Varmint stock which is a Ultimate Sniper stock with more of a strait forend and not having the angles that the Ultimate Sniper has. I bought it on the rifle new from Savage (10FP) but I didn't care for the stock myself so I ended up selling it. It seemed really heavy to me, not to say that you wont like it though.

But, mine came with 2 cheek pieces, a low which was the one that I used and a taller one that I never even took out of the package. You should be able to get plenty high with the taller cheek piece that comes with it.

Good Luck

thanks! so it sounds like the stock will work for me with the high cheek pad. the weight is not a problem. it will be a table gun for the most part.

Re: choate ultimate sniper stock

I have a choate ultimate sniper stock housing my Remmy 700.

The stock comes with 2 cheek pads of different hieght. I use the low one, and it provides good cheek weld for a 32x56mm scope one high rings. I believe the high cheek pad will be plenty enough for any scopes.

The stock is indeed heavy, but very steady and dampens recoil quite effectively.
