I wasn't being literal. </div></div>My point: Using ropes to go down is easy; rapelling is a skill with little to brag about as I have seen eight year-olds do it with ease after ten minutes of instruction. Using a rope as a safety device while you climb... significantly harder.

You know, looking again at the original post and knowing how good the Israelis are at learning from their mistakes one wonders what, if anything, will be the final straw that changes the anti-intellectual bent of what is now the (professional, not Reserve) Israeli senior officer corps?
