Since i started shooting my X47
308 is just gathering dust
mostly coz x47 is so much easier to shoot kinda like cheating.

308 best suited to light 155 bullets n lets face the bc still sucs compared to 6, 6.5, 7mm bullets.

So in order to have a more usable rig as x47 is a match rifle. So thinking hunting n some light tactical work

So
heres my thinking
After much number crunching thru QL/QT

20" no taper truck axle or something real close
7saum

Thats 47" of drift 10mph wind and 23MOA @ 1k

Now what kinda recoil can i expect? thou plan is to run a CAN eventually which will help

What you guys reckon do it or stay 308

Re: Chop or Not

7 SAUM is a good round. Recoil would be negligible in a rifle with a truck axle/sewer pipe barrel. I would not go below 21 3/4" with this round.

Chopping up your 308 would require: Opening the bolt face or buying a new PT&G bolt, new extractor (if you don't buy a new PT&G bolt), new follower and mag box.

It might be cheaper to sell your 308, and find a rem 700 donor action (either 7mm or 300 saum or any WSM short mag flavor) and built it from there.

Sounds like a fun project.

Re: Chop or Not

Gun currently runs BADGER DBM n AICS mags so no issue there.

PTG bolt thats a good idea depends on $$ Mark will ask to open this one.

Sell the 308 nah its already got all the bells n whistles not a off the rack stick....luvin built by Randy (HateCa)

How ever I reran Numbers as suggested by a friend
straight 284 win
no bolt change....i,m cheap
Difference is nowt @ 1k 49 drift @ 10mph and 24.5 MOA
So
284 it is
22" barrel still short enuff for CAN, thats point of short barrel

thnx guys

Re: Chop or Not

Karl2U,

Yup, your rifle does have all the bells and whistles. 284 winny is another good round although feeding it can be a problem. You have a choice of Winchester Brass, that's it. Getting it to feed into from your box can also run into problems. But if you can get a AICS to feed WSM's, then I guess it would feed 284's.

Re: Chop or Not

I love that rifle. If its collecting dust, I'll remedy that for you.

Guys, you outta see that rig up close. She is sexy.

Re: Chop or Not

Shag
thnx for compliment, but i,m a lefty and after all $$ i put into something that began as a 700vs...its not going anywhere
Just fancy running a CAN and 284 outta 22" barrel does pert good

You had any luck with Dill boy and procuring reloading gear?

Most of my time is going into x47 and sorting it, then getting LNL AP running cranking out 223 and 9mm for cheap trigger time

Next shoot @ new Braunfels is 4th july, might see if i can sneak away for it...let me know if ya wanna go or any others that are local.
