Great scopes, just too heavy.

Make illumination optional.

Make a 42 mm objective on 3-15 power.

Keep everything else the same.

Wouldn't that put it closer to 24 or 25 ounces???

Sure wish Nightforce made one that met this criteria . . .

Re: C'mon Nightforce! 3-15x 40-50mm +/- 25 oz?

If you aren't hung up on brand, the Premier 'Hunter' is nicely appointed

3.15x50
choice of FFP reticles

the 2.5-10x32 compact is actually a great hunting scope !

plenty of power going to 10

externally adjustable illumination

no problems in low light, have taken coyotes at night out to 380 yards with light

weighs 19 oz.

My son, with this years whitetail

Re: C'mon NightForce! Make the ideal hunting scope!!!

Scott, I've had three NXS compacts at once, one a 32mm. They are definitely nice little hunting optics!
That said, for a couple hundo more than a NXS 2.5-10x32, the Premier 3-15x50 rocks FFP goodness and glass that eats the NXS Compact's lunch, especially in during 'prime' low light hunting conditions.
Apples to oranges, but an interesting option to consider in that relative price range...

should add: if NXS made the Compact in 40-42mm, I'd be all over a couple!

I like the Premier as well, but one thing to consider is the tube wall thickness is pretty thin. My buddy found out the hard way. He tightened the rings to 20inch/pound and it caved in the body. These were Badger rings and had been fine on other scopes. The tube on the scope could have been out of spec though.

BINGO! That is the ticket right there. I'll take 2.

Re: C'mon NightForce! Make the ideal hunting scope!!!

The premier is a nice option . . . The varmint hunter would be the one I would choose. Just have been real pleased with NF aside from the lighter weight model selection.

And the knobs moving when you don't want them to

I hope we will be looking backwards at the scope market in 18 months asking, "why in the hell did it take until mid-year 2014 for the scope companies to figure out the value of locking knobs??????"

i'll agree with the locking knob statement to an extent, i don't feel like i have to have that feature given a zero stop, but having it on adjustable windage knobs would be very handy,

I don't think that option is available any more. I tried to find one this past summer and no one had one. I really like the "hunter" model I have, but target turrets would make dialing easier.

Re: C'mon NightForce! Make the ideal hunting scope!!!

Would love to see a 6x42 with an elevation turret and windage references on a #4 style reticle. Make the thick parts of the reticle spaced closely enough to be able to bracket vitals in low light at relatively close range. About 16 oz would be nice.

Re: C'mon NightForce! Make the ideal hunting scope!!!

If they would make a 40mm obj version of the 3-15, I'd swap my PST to a different rifle in a heartbeat. I can handle the weight of a NXS, just don't like the size of them for an everyday gun.

I run the 3.5X15, and like it. But I would prefer something in between the Compact and full flavored scope.

Re: C'mon NightForce! Make the ideal hunting scope!!!

All my serious hunting rifles (except my dangerous game big bore) now wear the 2.5-10 and I really think it suits a vast majority of my hunting situations.

I do like the low power for woods hunting and the illumination is great for dawn & dusk. Plus, it does help to see the reticle when a deer is standing against the darker or thicker brush in the shadows.

I agree a slightly higher power like 3-12 or 4-16 with a 40 or 42 mm objective would be on a rifle as soon as they would be available.

I'm surprised how many people are concerned about the size of the scope. I have never felt overscoped, and I certainly dont feel the extra weight, I
mean we are talking ounces right. As far as Im concerned, NF already makes the perfect hunting scope, so do Vortex, S&B, Premier,USO, SS, ect. take your pick.
