Many seem to be jumping to the conclusion that he emailed it directly to the press based on the “outside chain of command” statement. The recipients are not yet defined, just a bunch of assumptions in this haven for conspiracy theories, is my point. His violation could just be that he inadvertently sent secret or higher traffic over the unsecured network. Could be the “violation” they used for him sending the email to every swinging dick up to, and including SECDEF and commanders of them Pacific fleet subordinates outside his own 7th fleet? It could be he simply pissed in more than one bowel of cornflakes.

Your jargon may be misleading.

If you read the statement he was relieved because the information conveyed in the letter didn't match up to information conveyed over secure phone. The "letter" could have just as easily been sent in a daily SITREP or conducted over secure voice comes. Loss of confidence because of his actions and the affect on crew discipline.

SECNAV left the opinion of who leaked it open.

I'll also leave Hillary's server out of it because if it had been anyone else they would have been in prison for forwarding .gov email to an outside server.

I'm going to go with the Navy on this one. The commander should have kept his shit within the chain of command and if it was related to the mission capability of the ship it should have been classified and not sent to the media or other sources outside of the chain of command, period.

Do I think the Navy was slow to react and not taking the problem seriously at first, Yes.

Do I think the Navy was initially not as interested in correcting the situation as it was in keeping that carrier on station? Yes.

The hard work of being a swabbie officer at the Pentagon began when they had to get together in some meeting of jagoff officers and figure out how to rearrange their schemes and dreams to get the Roosevelt's mission covered by other ships. That's hard work and it is far easier to say,"fuck those guys" and leave them out there. The crew is mostly young and healthy, the virus would have probably infected half the crew and maybe killed 50 if left untreated. In the eyes of a Pentagon shithead with dreams of glory, the ship is still fully mission capable with 1% casualties. No reason to pull it off station.

And since the military is still packed with Obama/commie officers at flag level, an incident on a carrier that kills 50 sailors would greatly embarrass the president and all but insure a political appointment under a Biden/Clinton White House.

If the Captain would have used his discretion and re-routed to Guam without their approval for a quarantine in proximity to an American territory with major air services and medical facilities available to him.............................they would have canned him anyway. Whatever happened, I think the powers would have fired this guy and blamed him for the problem, that is the Navy way.
