Compact drag bags

Now that i've 'aquired' one of those AICS 2.0 suckers for my Rem 700 Tac, I'm trying to find a compact drag bag that will hold my baby with her butt to the side, she's a wide ass bitch so not to sure if the Eagle M4 Drag Bag will take the strain, any ideas? cheers... Airborne out!

Where is she?

The Eagle works great with the 20" AE II stage 2 Fits like a glove--not the OJ one though

I need to find out if the bag/rifle will fit into a 36" hard case, no foam, the thickness is the concern.

Re: Compact drag bags

For a soft case, with the chassis folded, I would probably look to one of the double-carbine cases that is wide enough to accommodate two carbines side-by-side (Boyt and others make them as well) or the Eagle M4 DB.

As for hard cases...YES. You can get a 2.0 AICS equipped rifle into either the Pelican, Storm, or Starlight 36" hard cases with the stock folded unless your barrel is longer than 26". I have a LA, Stage 2.0 Chassis on a 26" barreled 300WM and with some creative placement/foam cutting, it fits just fine and still has room for addt'l mags, bipod, sling, bore-guide, etc., as well as plenty of foam padding between the ends of the stock/barrel. As for getting the Eagle M4 DB into a 36" hard case, it will require some cramming if it will work at all becuase the OAL of the M4 DB is around 37.5", so the interior length of most of the compact hard cases will be an inch or more short to fit the M4 DB.

I don't have any pics of my case setup at work, but I'll try to post some later on for anyone interested.

Re: Compact drag bags

Check out Eberle Stock they make a nice drag back thats a very comfortable pack and has removable pounches and stuff.

That would be cool. The length will be ok, just the thickness(width)

Re: Compact drag bags

Hey guys thanks for all the sound advice, once folded the measurements of my 20" 700 Tac with 2.0 chassis are:

Length - 31.5inches (800mm)

height - 8.5inches (215mm)

thickness - 4.5inches (115mm)

I'm pretty set on ordering the Eagle M4 bag but unsure of internal measurements and therefore have no idea if the zipper would take the strain of such a wide load?

ps - uploading pics isn't proving so easy.

Re: Compact drag bags

I can make a custom bag for you. I can not find my camera with the pics on it, but sent it to Pinco Palo in Italy. It is significantly wider in the bottom and top than the Eagle to accommodate the width of the folder AICS 2.0.

If I can find my camera I will post some pics.

Re: Compact drag bags

haha vjay vjay.......what is that lock doing on there? hard to get em to work quick like that.....

my galati bag is pretty short, with a flap that folds out the back to keep your legs a little dryer. the hoook that secures the rifle right behind the rigger gaurd would still work for you. and your thickness is not a problem, my rangefinder and rear bag sit on my sling alongside my rifle and it still closes no issue

I not only highlight it, I exemplify it. You need to live life to its fullest.

Re: Compact drag bags

Roger that armymedic.2, Still hoping for someone to clarify the internal max width of the Eagle M4 Drag bag, as for the lock, getting it fixed when it goes in for the supressors 'fit' next month.

And for you Vjayjay.. my thickness it's seen as an issue either

Re: Compact drag bags

I have put my AEII which has a 20" barrel and a brake, so about 21" and use a NF 3.5-15x50 in there and I assure you it fits. I used the Eagle M4 case before and it was a tad tighter. You will be fine!

Re: Compact drag bags

Cheers Mark5pt56, problem solved i think, now just trying to track one down in OD green, steve from triad tactical informed me that Eagle are requiring orders of 25+ of any single colour before they ship, most stores tend to have desert or black, but lack OD or even ranger green.

Re: Compact drag bags

I guess Triad would have to sit on 25 to get any, Hope it works out for you. Maybe the custom route may be better, that way you can really have it made your way.

Re: Compact drag bags

Thanks Mcgill, Just been onto the 'AIM' website (UK based company) have 3 great Drag Bags by the look of it, the 40" version (also have 50" + 60" versions) is displayed with an folding stock accuracy itself (all be it with a 26" barrel), a tad longer than i hoped for, however with an RRP of 125 UK pounds I may just get it and have the option to leave the supresser fitted once in a while.

I'll contact AIM next week to see if they can accomidate the gap in the market for 32/33" model.

Man, I'm a military armourer... I like my weapons looking good, makes my kill feel privileged to be shot by them (only one 8 pointer and 3 goats so far... lucky bastards!)

Still kind of new to the drag bag market, but have some ideas for some kick ass bags in the future. Plan on doing a small group buy of pre-made bags, with set lengths, sometime around March.

Hey looks pretty epic there Nick, having spent the last couple of months examining a tonne of different options.. from AIM, Eagle, Galati all the way down to Blackhawk.. can I make a couple of suggesions, internal strapping would be a must and a central internal rod/pull through pouch would be a godsend.

But dont get me wrong, it looks pretty sweet, any other colours? What length are we looking at and are the pack straps detatchable? and a rough price would be good to ponder over?

cheers,

Wil.

Re: Compact drag bags

To address your points:

These bags are custom made for your rifle, and there is no slop inside the bag. Much like a tailored suit, it is made to hug the rifle, not a one size fits some bag, so the need for internal strapping is not needed, there just simply isn't the need for it.

As far as a cleaning rod, I guess....but my personal experience dictates that rods tend to get damaged (bent) in soft cases, so I quit putting them in any rifle case that I make. When used with the pack straps, it bends and tweaks the bag to conform to your back/body. I can do it, but don't really see the need to carry a cleaning rod with the rifle at all times. I tend to leave it in the hard case that this case would go into for air travel/matches. Like I said, I would as an option, but don't really see the need for it.

Re: Compact drag bags

probably around $225, but have not finalized it. Time frame is about 4-5 weeks right now, so if your in a hurry, I might not be the best rout. However, if you want green, I will not make you buy 25 of them.
