I am looking for ideas for a lightweight compact reliable .22 to carry in my hunting pack. I have been carrying a 22/45 but it is just too heavy. I have thought about a mark III, beretta or woodsman type, but if I could find something smaller/lighter I think I would be happier. Thanks............

Take a look at Smith & Wesson Kit Guns. Small J framed revolvers that have been designed to and HAVE been carried in Sportsmans and Hunters "kits" for years.
I've got a 4" M-63 that I carry fishing, hunting, etc. IIRC it's 23 ounces. Mine is all SS.

They do alloy framed models that are insanely light.

My only other thought would be one of the little Walther P-22's but the one I had a dozen years back was such an unreliable POS unless they have sorted them out....never mind.

one of the new 22/45 lite pistols or a 22/45 with a tactical solutions pac-lite is very light.

If you are looking for something smaller. I think the older S&W 2213 and 2214 pistols are great.

I have a s&w m&p22 and I absolutely love it, so much in fact I bought two. It's easy to maintain, very accurate, but it jams using cheap or old ammo. I use cci mini mag or equivalent and haven't had any problems. If you need to change mags alot (or quickly) while shooting you may want to file the inside of the magazine well, its a little rough around the edges.

^^ This.

Designed for this purpose and you can't beat a revolver for reliability, IMO.
