I would not get rid of a 16" rifle to replace it with a pair of pistols.
The brace thing makes SBRs obsolete, until it doesn't. And that "doesn't" is a stroke of a pen away by ATF.

Since Beto said he wanted them all, a place out west made a huge killing by valuing them at $350. Sell them all, and buy 308's. A 155 GMX to a 175 @2700fps breaks plates. A IVA plate only stops 147gr ball @2550fps, but it still only works once.

Unless you specifically need something to be categorized as a "Pistol" because of some stupid communist anti freedom BS, then I don't see any advantage to changing from a 16" rifle to a 14.5" pistol.
It would not seem to make any sense (baring stupid regulations) unless you were wanting to go a lot shorter.
Also look at the SIG MCX VIRTUS, a bit expensive and proprietary, but the stock folds away and you can shoot it with the stock folded and it's still a rifle so you can do all the front grips and such.

I was mainly thinking interstate transit would be much easier.
Also, most states allow loaded pistols in vehicles with a CCW but fewer allow loaded rifles.

In addition to above peek at Dead Foot Arms. Folding stock that fires folded. Pistol version available. Your AR 15 . A modified bcg springs and tube very short. They tested it on fully automatic weapons. You tube videos are out there. I was sceptical I have both versions I have yet to have a malfunction caused by the system. I don't know currently how much they run about 3 yrs ago around 450.
They do offer a mil discount.
Why is buying/building the pistol mutually exclusive to selling the 16's?

Not a bad choice either. The magic is in that bullet and although I haven’t run the numbers, the 6.8 with a 9” can sling the Barnes ttsx 95 at 2450 FPS and is probably right there.

Meanwhile, you have more(?) than one 16" AR, and that's an investment. Selling it in today's market will probably not bring a profit, or even break even. As we were told in the Corps, hold what you got, surrender nothing; especially today.
If you have to sell something, especially a decent AR, in order to buy what you believe is the next 'answer'; you can't afford the gun.
This period of history will be largely about folks who want you to be disarmed, and what you're willing to do about it.

IMHO, do not sell the 16’s and replace with a 14.5 pistol. In the near future pistols will be classified as SBR’s and then you have another set of issues to address. If you want an actual pistols go with a shorter barrel than 14.5. If you want to make your 16’s more portable go with a folding adapter. I prefer Laws Tactical.
If you really want a pistol add one to your collection, submit NFA paperwork and convert it to a SBR at a later date.

I wouldnt sell any AR15 for the reason the OP stated. Parts are cheap. The price of a tax stamp covers the cost of a sub-16" barrel, and then slap a pistol brace on it.

The only reason to go 14.5 is to pin/weld a brake in order to get to 16+. At that point you can put either stock on and be nfs legal. But for the love of God I don’t know why you would still want a pistol brace on it.
If you go interstate with the above set up just keep the rifle cases and locked with the ammo separate.Store them in a trunk/ out of site. No one will harass you.

What is the point of going from 16” to 14.5” and using a subpar stock in the process. Either go 11.5” or don’t do it. Even then they suck without a suppressor. Add the suppressor and now you are back longer than your original 16” albeit quieter.
I base my opinion on what happened with bump stocks. As soon as someone uses an AR pistol for a mass shooting, assuming that has not been done already, there will be a push to eliminate or put under the NFA.
Pretty sure someone in the northeast used a brace pistol in a shooting. A nightclub or something.

My AUG with a 16.5" barrel with suppressor on is the same length as my 11.5" AR SBR is unsuppressed.
Yup. Based on my decade or so experience, the average cop doesn't know nuffin about nuffin as it pertains to weapons regulations. All they mainly know is "convicted felon in possession", unlawful possession (i.e. carrying without permit) and "stolen weapon".
Other rules/regs is a crap shoot at best. Some cops are squared away and know the laws..... others.... Unfortunately the thought of "looks illegal, arrest first, let the District Attorney sort it out" is the prevailing process.

Pistol braces are extremely common at all the ranges where I live.
Tons of cops shoot there too.
I’m in a pretty gun friendly state and AR’s are the most common gun at the range.
At some point we need to start asking them where they have the right to do so?
I have a Colt SOCOM upper I didnt want to drill and weld so I made it a pistol. If I were you I'd sell one to do a 14.5 and keep if you really have a bug for one.

In a court case known as "Chevron Deference" back in 1984, the SCOTUS ruled that the government agency has the right to interpret and adjudicate it's own rulings for it's own regulations it writes. So, the judiciary branch ruled that the executive branch can make, interpret, and hold hearings about it's own rules instead of taking shit to the courts to determine if lawful or not.

Had never done an official side by side. Broke out the tape measure. Aug is almost exactly 1" longer with the Surefire can on. Barrel is 16.5" vs the 11.5" on the Colt (with stock fully extended and a surefire flash hider on that too). Would be identical if the AR had a 12.5" barrel. Its a small but heavy way to go-
Braces are in common use and there are probably 100x the number of braces as there were bumpstocks.
I’m not worried about braces being outlawed.
Any criminally minded individual will just use an illegal SBR with legit stock unless they are absolutely retarded.
