Cop Tasers 9 year old? WTF?

Re: Cop Tasers 9 year old? WTF?

Why is the 9 year old being taken into custody anyway? The parents are the ones responsible. I'm suspect there is history with that family and the police. Here in Texas you can't be arrested under the age of 10. I guess truancy is a major crime in their neck of the woods.

The kid must have been on the McDonalds diet.

Just an FYI the officer may have reponded to the call in reference to a truancy but Ohio law has a statute of an unruly child.
2151.022 Unruly child defined.

As used in this chapter, “unruly child” includes any of the following:

(A) Any child who does not submit to the reasonable control of the child’s parents, teachers, guardian, or custodian, by reason of being wayward or habitually disobedient;

(B) Any child who is an habitual truant from school and who previously has not been adjudicated an unruly child for being an habitual truant;

(C) Any child who behaves in a manner as to injure or endanger the child’s own health or morals or the health or morals of others;

I see case law written all over this law. I feel for the 5s that have to enforce this law. Glad I'm in Texas!!!

Re: Cop Tasers 9 year old? WTF?

Having had to arrest lots of people, I don't think that any law enforcement officer should risk a permanent injury (back, neck, eye, or whatever) by having to fight with someone who is clearly uncooperative. The threat (kid in this case) sets the level of force to be used. The kid may not have understood the ramifications of his immature behavior (at least not until the shock hit), but I imagine he does now.

The officer's options were to let the kid have his way, or to impose his will on the kid. I think the kid needed to learn that HE is not in charge all the time. My guess is that the kid gets away with a great deal of stuff because of his size.

I suppose the officer could have waited until 4-5 other officers arrived as backup, but then the bitch would have been that 4-5 officers overpowered a kid. The net result would have been the same.

I think the kid learned a valuable lesson. Too bad the police department had to be disbanded. I support the officer's decision.

This is stupid. Kid was stupid, cop was stupid, mom was stupid. I never want to visit there. Sounds like everyone is stupid

And yes, cop was stupid... gimmie a break. You don't want to risk a back injury so you use non-lethal force on an unarmed 9 YEAR OLD throwing a fit. HELLO! Public servant. I believe it's protect and serve not shock bratty children.

Besides, this kid was did I mention a 9 year old child and already over weight. Cops lucky it didn't kill him.

What you're saying is, when someone pulls a gun, knife, or other lethal weapon on me (aka, my life is in jeapordy), I should respond with a Taser?

That's is not what I've said.

This is why the new's is always full of crap. It's always some reporter talking about a situation that they have absolutely no knowledge of, and what kind of response is necessary or justified.

Reporters talking about situations they have no knowledge of you say?

I have no knowledge of the situation with the 9 year old and I'm going entirely on your comment of how people should protect their life and the lives of others with a one shot electrical device. Wow.

IRONY ALERT!!!

I stated that I have no knowledge of the situation and therefore did not comment on it, maybe you should go back and read my post.

My comment was to the fact that you stated that officers should resort to a taser when their life is in danger. And the fact that you sounded like a reporter with that comment.

The TASER is lower level of force than going hands on. This was clearly not a probe deployment, but pain compliance, which would have likely been used mechanically if the officer went hands on.

Trying to justify tasing a nine year old = mind blown

That being said, you don't HAVE to have a kid ride the lightning. I would have called for another officer and dealt with it that way. No sense in throwing out my back wrestling some fat assed kid off the ground. I'm too lazy to look for the post that suggested the officer should be hanged from a tree and caned because the "punishment fits the crime" but i hardly see that as equal. The taser isn't that painful and is the safest tool I carry on my belt. I've been stabbed before, and I had to get tased for training, and I will respectfully disagree.

I agree with Bill...if the officer was not in danger there is simply no way to justify it. You dont tase a kid for non compliance for truancy. period.
