Corncob media damn

So the corncob media promptly got stuck bad in 223 brass.
Mad as hell I began picking away at it.
My som threw a handfull of the brass back in the empty tumbler,
Worked decently to remove a lot of it.

By accident I dropped a clogged round on the wooden bench,
As it bounced back and forth on it's axis it slung its contents out!
Still took up a lot of time, what a mess.

Some bargains are not.

Lyman media? Sounds like it. Clogged 50% of mine. If you get others it’s can be finer and doesn’t jam up as bad.

I use rice now, it’s only 5% clog rate and it’s only ever just a single kernal in the flash hole that pops out easy and not an entire pocket crammed like the Lyman did.

I also got an rcbs media separator, that helped a whole bunch.

I mistakenly thought the kob was too large to clog the primer pocket, wrong.
The worst is it fills then seals off the case inside.
Will use it on pistol cases so it doesn't go to waste.
The walnut looks a bit fine will see how it acts.

They were on sale and convenient, I was getting low.

Don't get the kob.

20-40 grit corn cob blasting media from somewhere like Grainers or other industrial supply. Fine grain, won't clog flash holes even on small rifle primers. Cheap, you can get a 40lb bag for like $30-40 and it will last you forever.

Crushed walnut blast media from Harbor Freight, (bag was cheap and filled two 5 gallon buckets) never clogged and a squirt of Brasso.

I think the walnut will be good, the kob is just too large was not labled for grit size.
I was in a hurry and paid the price.

Will source some proper 20-40 grit kob asap and give the kob i have away for pet bedding.

Just hope others see this before they have "kobagedden". Lol

Had the same problem with the cob from the pet store. Also when using the lizzard bedding throw in a dryer sheet with it that stuff is super dusty!! The dryer sheet will help keep the dust down. Also throw in a handful of copper platet BB's. Seemed to help keep the lizzard bedding from clumping with the polish

The long grain is thin enough to jam in flash holes, the arborio is too fat to fit anywhere. The medium grain is just right.
It’s also the quintessential rice for Chinese food, white sticky but not quite sushi rice, goes well with sesame chicken.
It takes 45 to get to a comparable cleanliness as the jagged cob does in half an hour and doesn’t quite get the same sparkly luster but it also jams sooo much less and isn’t dusty. The main thing I notice is that since I’ve switched to a lanolin mix instead of oneshot it seems to get tacky over time instead of dirty. Oneshot the rice would get actually black and coated with crap as it picked up the stuff and you could actually see the rice get black gradually. With lanolin I guess it doesn’t absorb as well and I switch it sooner just because I don’t like the way it feels. Brass still comes out clean. Still, my little Lyman tumbler goes a couple thousand cases between switching media batches.

+1 for walnut shells.

They rarely get stuck in the flashholes (maybe 2 or 3 out of 100 now that the pointy bits are worn off).

The dryer sheets help with the dust and the stuff lasts a long time.

Every time I consider doing the stainless steel thing, I remember that I don't want to dry my brass so I stick with the walnut shells instead.

I don't bother with tumbling my 223 brass. I size them, trim them,load them then put in tumbler. Out comes shiny ammo.
