range is 350yds, wind was fairly consistent ~5-8mph with gusts to ~15'ish. 168gr federal gold metal match ammo, Prone with a bipod on a gravel.

What could be causing the vertical stringing?

Looks like just over 1.5" @ 350 yards. That's about .5 MOA. That's pretty good if it's consistent with larger groups.

But to answer your question there could be multiple causes to vertical stringing: breath control, shoulder alignment, rear bag pressure...

It's probably just me, because I suck... But if the buttpad isn't EXACTLY in the same spot every time when I take a shot, I get vertical stringing. Also, as stated above, rear bag. And again, it's probably just me because I suck... But when I need to squeeze the rear bag, or if I secure it in a way that doesn't give it enough contact area with the ground, I get vertical stringing. It's never severe stringing though, just like the results you are seeing. It's there, but for someone like me, negligible.

Makes it easier,as mechanical integrity should be in order. I'd then honestly evaluate the release and how the group was shot.

Typically when a scope gets "weird",is does so randomly and without pattern, though sometimes even modest erector corrections can cause vertical as guts settle.

It is plausible that you could shift vertical, with differing forearm loads on the bipod, but your heart would have to be in it.(grin)

What was the toe of the stock resting upon?

Mono pod. Also resting in gravel.

I cut the session short because it started raining. I'll try to get out again this afternoon.

Alright I'm going with bad technique. Shot the flat group followed by another vertical string. I stole my wife's yoga mat (god help me if she finds out) to cushion the ground.

Man, that's a nice setup you got there, except for the yoga mat... looks to me like your not doing too shabby for that being 350 yards....

Vertical stringing is usually a result of the ammo not keeping a consistent velocity, horizontal stringing is usually more shooter or wind induced.

I figure that if I can take the stringing out of the equation then the groups will shrink a lot. I'm pretty sure my technique is failing at this point. I haven't shot groups in a long time and this rifle will outshoot me, no question about it. I've probably shot less then 100rds of rifle ammo in the last few years. Between work and family commitments. Hoping to change that in this year.

But it if you look at the horizontal spread when they string vertical or the vertical spread when they string horizontal. It's closer to 1" or less, which I'm guessing is where the rifle should be if it was someone else pulling the trigger.

if it's not raining today I'll bring a rest and rear bag up and see if it helps me.

Beautiful rig, and extremely capable. I even like the pink mat, as long as you're man enough to rock it. Praying for you if she finds out.

I dont chase groups past 100 yards. If I can bang moa steel for a given distance, I call it good. Chasing groups will drive you insane.

Good shooting though. I wouldnt be upset with that at all.

Just keep shooting. Remember to back your eye away from the scope enough so that the black fuzzy ring of the vignette has the crosshairs centered in it. You do not want to see the entire objective lens, all the way to the edge. That means your eye is too close to the scope. This technique pins down your POI as much as possible.

Kinda sounds like parallax...?
