Okay, so last week I noticed some debt charges begin to appear on my Pay Pal account from my Debit Card number, not online. Someone got my Debit card number and started to use it.
Because the Pay Pal account will email you in almost real-time when the card is used, I immediately shut it down, and basically use my Pay Pal card for this very reason. It limits my exposure, especially in sketchy spots and traveling.
Yesterday I got home from CA and in the mail, there was a copy of the insurance information the scammer tried to open with my card. They registered and trying buying car insurance along with a $40 trip to Dairy Queen, and as I said, it was turned off pretty quick.
Now the lameness of the situation, I called Pay Pal to tell them I had the information, 3 people later the women say yes we would like to have that information so go to the resolution center and submit it. Well, you can't submit it so I call them back and they tell me they are arent interested in charging the person, only getting the claim resolved. How weird is that you would think they want to shut the pipeline down for stolen credit cards, and here is a cog in that machine, but nope, maybe they will ask for it, and all they did was put a note on the file I have additional information.
So Isaiah Smith from Steven's Point WI gets to walk away from trying to use a stolen card number racking up about $1600 in bogus charges on my card. Crazy world we live in, especially considering I have not been to WI this season, I was in MI, but not Wisconson at all.
My PP credit card has been used fraudulently twice. On one occasion, someone tried to put his $6K downpayment for a car on it......Both times it was someone in FL. I have only been to FL once in my entire life. As you say, they aren't interested in prosecution. They just want the paperwork for their records. They usually send them to you in a package with an affidavit form where you state that it was not you
