hey all,

i've been lurking for quite a while and wanted to share my first long range kill.

i recently re-barreled my savage 10fp from 308 to 6.5 creedmoor. this last weekend i went hunting aoudad and pigs with some friends near clarendon, tx. i never saw an aoudad, but i did kill this hog at a good distance.

he was rooting under a mesquite tree with his ass toward me. i ranged him at 540 yards, got setup prone and waited for him to turn broadside. once broadside, i sent one and hit him in the shoulder. the bullet broke both shoulders and exited.

it was very cool to finally have an opportunity to shoot something precisely after just shooting targets long range for the last couple of years.

Re: creedmoor hog

thanks, guys.

the hog did a faceplant when hit as the bullet broke both shoulders. he did flop around a bit for 20 seconds or so.

i didn't cut him open, so not sure if the core separated from the jacket. i doubt it did. the exit hole wasn't very large, which did surprise me. those long, skinny bullets may not expand very much.

i've had very good results with the 155 30 cal amax on pigs and deer, fist sized hole on exit.

Re: creedmoor hog

nice hog. Im going to do some hog huntin in another week.
One thing I notice from your picture.... your scope rings seem way to high. I'd go lower.

just a thought.

i'm using a nightforce unimount on my nxs so i can move the scope from one gun to another with minimal work. this is the height that will clear the barrel on all of my guns. i would have liked to have it lower but its fine, it all comes out in the math.

yes, i reload. even with minimal load development, its a shooter! im using factory hornady brass, fed gold match primer, 43.0gr h4350 and 140 amax. my kreiger is a little slower than some of the other barrels at this point. i hope that it will speed up a bit after a couple of hundred rounds.
