Curtis Vector Issue

Does anyone know why Curtis went with the .750 bolt? I asked them, but didn't receive an answer. Just curious what the pro is, being the con is having to modify your mag catch to get the mag to sit .250" lower. Also, wouldn't having the mag .250" lower, make the feed angle that much steeper?

Had 2 vectors at the match this weekend 1 was mine running with Aw and the other Aics.

0 issues

Only had to make a couple passes with file on mag catch(mpa) and adjust feed lips in the front of the Aw to release case a tad sooner.

Also a good buddy got one last week and applied the same steps, runs flawless.

Shot 10 at 1000 with only missing a couple (wind) removed barrel then reinstalled shot another 5 missed 1 (wind?) at a 10" square. With all the posts in this forum I was nervous as shit, but now il be running it for the rest of the season?

It's .025, 25 thousandths. not .250"

I’m gonna throw up a review on mine now that I’ve got it running flawlessly. Glad to see more people got them worked out. I had to do the same tweaks, file mag catch slightly then open AW feed lips slightly. Runs perfect. I can even cycle the bolt with the AW mag hold the rifle up on my knee. My AXMC won’t do that.

I was scared at the start of this thread but I'm very impressed with what Phil at MPA has come up with. I have a pre-order from Feb and I still haven't received my action. All emails, phone calls, and Facebook messages have gone unanswered. I'm not feeling good about this.

I’ll throw my experiences in for anyone that gives a crap:

My vector ran ARC mags flawlessly, upward pressure on the mag did not bind bolt the slightest. So, just run ARC mags right? NO! STAY AWAY lol as soon as they get dirty they will not feed. I learned this the hard way in a match. No more for me.

I figured since the ARC is not an option I might as well run AW mags. No reason I would ever go with single stack AICS mags over the AW style. My AW mags were REALLY tight to seat. Had to hit them in the bottom and then they would hang the bolt up a bit. So, I took 2 thou off the MPA mag latch and problem solved. Mag seats perfectly, drops free, feeds everything, and no matter how much pressure I put on the mag it doesn’t bind. All in all, I will be using AW mags until I see an issue. Wish I would have gone with them in the first place.

One more note. The vector is NOT the only action that binds when you put pressure on the mag. There are a ton of actions out there that do this. I’ve seen multiple pro shooters in videos talk about this and watching where your mag is on rooftops and other obstacles as any pressure on it can cause major issues. This is not an isolated issue with the vector.

Curtis has been great to deal with and I saw in here they were willing to refund someone for their action, no questions asked! That is impressive. I’ve had issues with other actions and not one company ever offered that, even though I would have loved it!! I am diffing the vector so far, and am very excited to see how these aw mags do in competition setting!!

EXACTLY. I chose to modify the cheapest part rather than ruin all my mags if I want to run them in other rifles. It did not affect use of AICS mags or even magpul mags. It basically runs them all now. If you run a 3 lug and dont run AW mags I feel like you are limiting yourself, 3 lug actions and AW mags are a match made in heaven! :)

Just an update as the OP.

I received a full refund from Curtis on my action. All in all I’m out money to rechamber and rebarrel to an impact but the differences are so small it should cost a ton. I’m hoping less than 150 bucks.

Curtis stood behind their product so I’d have no problem recommending them as a company. I hear they are planning to make an AICS style Vector and that I would be interested in.

I ended up going with another impact action but I wanted to update everyone that Joel and chase are stand up guys and made it right.

Digging up a old tread, but wanted to comment my experience with the vector and different brands of mags.

Mdt chassis and aics style mags did the same as the op, so I switched to aw. I was running br and it solved all my problems. Feed lips will catch the bolt lugs if not turned in.

Recently switched to dasher and I had problems with jamming came back.

After struggling I realized the shoulder of the case were catching inside the action. On each side of the feed ramp there was a hard point. It was in the perfect point to bind the round in the mag and the action. I had to take a deburring die and grind down each side to get it to feed correctly.
