If just talking Border Patrol, over 85% of agents are assigned to the SW Border. Less than 15% are spread out amongst the Norther Border, Coastal Borders, and places like DC and other non border assignments.

So, there's only one section of the border that merits much of a discussion.

Yea, I did my interview with 3 CBP agents at Harrisburg international airport in PA. Old salty dudes.

The northern boarder is a joke. Its easier to get into Canada than it is visa versa.

They also setup checkpoints many miles from the boarder, violating the civil rights of American Citizens who have the audacity to travel within 150 miles of the border.

They refuse to do the job they were sworn to, Refuse to uphold US law and the constitution and allow this country to be invaded by terrorists, illegals and drugs that are killing our citizens and destroying our quality of life.

Customs is not Border Patrol. Got a buddy who is a customs agent in Baltimore. Was the biggest Pothead in college, but that's a different story. Their mission is clear and separate from Border Patrol.

Border Patrol has one job. Administer the boarder. They get involved in shit they have no business being apart of when you have other agencies who cover that domain, be in DEA, FBI, DOI, USMS, Customs ,ect ect.

I don't know if I would use Uvalde as an example for success in any aspect, unless you are a mass murderer. Any one of the LE with a set of balls could have ended before a guy from over an hour away got there.

There were BORTAC guys in afg and iraq. Amazing they had the time to come to a combat zone and try to stop drug smuggling in foreign nation, but cant be bothered to do it here.

The TLDR:

These rifles will only be for a small % of Agents in specialty units. And unless you're specifically looking, you'll likely never see any of those units mentioned or shown in mainstream media.

These aren't for anyone you're going to see in the background of a news piece about all the families and other such stuff at the border.

What a waste of money. One out of 20 of the guys issued this will be able to shoot up to its level and it won't be useful in the majority of scenarios as a semi-auto would.

A Seekins SP10 would have been about 15% of the cost and far more maintainable and match the scenarios/training level.

- Bolt guns are easier to shoot that gas guns

- Gas guns require more maintenance than bolt guns

- You're assuming the end user of these rifles doesn't have a gas gun option sitting in their unit as well


Could you describe what scenario you believe the end user of this rifle is going to see? Do you think border engagement distances are the same as most domestic LE agency distances?

Then you would know what a SB set aside, sba and things like Hub zone, 7a, ect are. Percentage of all gov contracts have to be apart of these programs for an agency to stay in compliance. Open bidding and fairness sound great on paper or in the courtroom but that's not reality. The regs are written in a way you can get what you want by framing the porcurement. The very best contracting pros can get a end user what they want while navigating the red tape.

They stashed his ass about 30 minutes from where I am sitting. I was in high school at the time and we used to do stuff at wye institute. It was shut down for a while until his illegal ass got sent packing.

You got HRT , FBI regional, Each office has a tac team, plus State, locals, USMS, ect. There is zero reason why Border patrol should be doing hits/raids. But everyone wants their piece of the pie, no matter how impractical and stupid it is. Doing shit hundreds of miles from the boarder, in Afganistan or at large events in DC is not within Border patrols mission. Talk about mission creep. Everything they are doing, there is already an agency tasked with that mission.

They shouldn't even exist.

This is very true about framing the procurement. Had a buddy that was a contracting officer in Ranger Batt and dudes wanted a specific type of protein shake. 1st bid some Small Business won it and supplied them with Met-RX small powder packets. Dudes were pissed cause they had to mix their protein and that shit was lumpy. 2nd go round my buddy did his research cause dudes wanted those premixed gatorade protein shakes and it has a specific protein used in it and he wrote the procurement for pre-mixed, ready to consume protein shakes with xyz protein in it. Some SB won and sent them pallets of those things at super jacked up prices.

The supposition that this selection is a bad choice because it precludes weapon commonality with other agencies/units is asinine. For ten years while carrying the HS Precision I’ve operated with, trained with, and trained snipers from all kinds of units all over the country and different weapons and scopes have never gotten in the way. Well, there was that one guy with the Browning A-Bolt in 300 WSM with the 1/8 MOA Barska…. He got beat up that week, but the rest of us had a good time watching! An AI in 308 is not uncommon in the LE world these days.

BORTAC will be thrilled and well served with this rifle. The rest of us envious.

But but the BORTAC agents gonna get killed in da’ streets if their precision rifle can’t interchange parts with other agencies precision rifles!

Plus it’s common knowledge that bolt action rifles are very difficult to operate from one model to another. When the chips are down how can we expect a BORTAC agent or one of his colleagues in another organization to figure out how to make a super complicated bolt action rifle go bang if he’s not specifically trained on that exact model? Our LEO’s and .mil guys are far far too dim witted to figure out how to operate a 3 position safety on an AI vs a two position on an M700. Much less figure out a magazine release. Remembering how to operate the bolt is already too taxing for most of them.
