Hey guys figured yall would know. Looking to get my g/f's son into some LR shooting. Figured the SPS Tactical .223 would be perfect for him. Has anyone cut down one of the factory SPS Tactical stocks for shorter LOP? OR is there a stock that would suit him better?

Do you have the rifle already? Is it the hogue factory stock?

If so, before chopping anything, I would take the factory recoil pad off, trace it onto some 1/4 fiberboard or thin wood and make an insert. Then get a Beartooth recoil pad and use any thickness necessary. The beartooth comes with various thickness of inserts, and the 223 does not have much recoil.

This way its easy to switch back and forth and you can always sell the stock later.

Just a thought as I have done similar with other rifles for my daughters, with most 10-14 year olds a 12.5" LOP is about perfect.

Obviously you can spend a bunch of cash on a chassis, or modify a youth stock by opening the channel, woods stocks etc. This mod should only cost about $14 and take 5-15 min to do.
