Here's some pics of my 455 varmint tumbhole with the 2 lowest rings I could find to fit my 2 scopes on, so I can avoid using a cheek riser. I though that it could help some people here with their choice of ring with the new 457.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of cheek riser. I know the importance of sight alignment while having your neck mussels completely relaxed. All my other rifles have adjustable cheek riser… It's just that tumbhole stock design that cannot receive any cheek riser properly. So, I had to find a solution with good sets of rings that would clear the objective from the barrel as well as the bolt handle from the eye piece.
This solution could be good also for those like me that do not want to drill holes in a nice piece of wood or carbon fiber stock to install an adjustable cheek riser. No offense to anyone here. This choice is personnal. I did drill holes in my savage plastic stock… but I chose a Godagrip cheek pad for my CZ 527 MTR for example.
So, here are the pics.
I hope that it will help!

1. Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40mm 1'' tube + Leupold rings 1'' medium height (0.860''). Product code #54231.
Leupold® ringmounts are a high-quality alternative to firearm manufacturer ringmounts or as a no-tap mounting method for most .22 rimfire rifles with an 11mm, 13mm, or 3/8'' dovetail rail. This model is designed to fit an 11mm rail and any riflescope with a 1" maintube. And because these rings...

The 40mm objective bell diameter is 1.830'', clearance is about .090'' from the varmint barrel and the bolt handle is not touching the scope eye piece witch is 1.555' in diameter. (almost touching!) This set up is perfect for me as far as sight picture alignment.

The 50mm objective bell diameter is 2.26'' and almost touching the barrel with 0.045'' of clearance. Same thing with the bolt handle. The eye piece diameter is 1.745'' on the widest (zoom ring). This set up is 0.130'' higher than the previous one… so not exactly the perfect eye alignment with the scope… but this is the lowest I could put my Vortex on.
3. As you probably noticed, the bolt body of the new 457 slides in the receiver differently than the 455. As I saw on the previous pics that some posted here, we have to be carefull not going too wide with the ring clamps. Some rings won't prevent the bolt to slide properly. The width of the clamps of the 2 sets of rings I proposed here are pretty slim. I'm almost sure the new 457 bolt body/handle will clear these rings.
4. The original packages.
I know sometimes fitting everything perfectly is a bit of compromise… With these 2 set up I could not benefit from the extra 20 or 30 MOA scope adjustment that a canted picatinny scope base could offer.
Your time to make a choice!
Happy shooting!
