Gunsmithing Damaged Thread. Would you send this back?

I just opened the box and this is what I see after removing the thread protector on my Savage Mark II FV-SR. Would you send this back to get repaired or would you just clean up the threads with a metal nail file and call it good or just leave it the way it is?
The thread protector screws on and off just fine, but it just looks bad..

Savage says: "If you would send me your address, I will gladly have UPS email you a return label. Once you receive it, you can use it to send the rifle into us for evaluation. Our gunsmiths will then work on this for you and make sure those threads are correctly machined."

I don't know if I should do it or not.. What could they do since metal is missing? Will they take my barrel off and possibly mess up any accuracy I might have had? Not sure what I should do.. I don't want to waste my time sending it back if they can't really do anything or if they are just going to do the same thing I can do myself.

Everything about that muzzle looks like a hatchet job! Look at the crown! The end of the barrel looks like it was faced with a dull rock! Return it and buy something else!

I send it back savage has been great customer service, they are most likely to rebarrel the rifle but general their quality is quite a bit better than what you see their.. must have been a new hire...

ok thank you, that's good to know. Hopefully they do good and making things right. If it was a new hire, hopefully it's not the same guy doing the repairs..
I just sent them my address for a return label so I can send it back. Will give a update when I get my return label to see how long it takes to get this all taken care of.

A lot of these manufacturers use other companies for repairs so who knows who will get it. And unfortunately it takes a long time with most big manufacturers who take one look at their shitty work and find nothing wrong with it and send it back. I hated selling firearms and dealing with repairs, the companies just don't care enough. Remington was the worst at not admitting problems, I can't remember how bad savage was. We usually didn't have to many issues but I wouldn't settle for that threading. Tell them you don't want to blow up your suppressor (whether you have one or not.) Or that it doesn't fit or whatever it takes to make them actually recut or re barrel it.

That's what I'm afraid of and why I was so hesitant to send it in for repairs.. I am expecting the response of there is nothing wrong with it and they just send it back or they will just say it's perfectly fine and there is nothing they can do unless I pay for extra gunsmithing work because the time of repairing and making it right is not worth their time and would be considered extra according to the Savage standards on this lower priced firearm..
I will definitely mention the silencer in my notes when I send it back.
