Everyone,
I have a .338 Edge and have been thinking of contacting Dan about his OCW method of load development. I want to shoot the 300 grain Bergers and hoping his method might get me to where I want to be with this round. Anyone else have any experience with the OCW method? Hope this hasn't been ask before.

Mark

Re: Dan Newberry and OCW?

I started using the OCW method about a year ago, and have used it multiple times for .308 and .338LM.

It is working for me in that I have been able to visibly see the difference in the loads and working toward a better overall load.

For me, it is something that I plan to use long term, e.g. develop a charge with decent groups (better than off the shelf match ammo), work diligently on technique/training. As I become a more capable shooter, rinse and repeat until there are negligible returns.

Re: Dan Newberry and OCW?

I really like using the OCW method and it works well. As for Dan service, its a fair price and his paid advice when give more into detail with contacting him at any reasonable time. You will use less material finding a load for your 338. Good luck.

Re: Dan Newberry and OCW?

I've used OCW to develop all my loads; and I think it works very well. There is a wealth of information on Dan's Practical
Rifelry Forum, and I especially recommend this particular thread:

This outlines Donovan Moran's approach which, in my view, combines many of the best features of both ladder tests and OCW. FYI.

Yes, when done <span style="text-decoration: underline">correctly</span>.
Read and understand the entire process before you begin and don't deviate.

Re: Dan Newberry and OCW?

I have contacted Dan and he has given me the starting points and 5 different loads to try. I'll get them to the range and post up the results once the weather breaks a little. One thing I found curious was that I wanted to use RE-25 (have 5lbs on hand)and he pretty much insisted on Retumbo powder. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: Dan Newberry and OCW?

I don't know much but I know his OCW method and shooting them round robin works!! I've seen the difference with seating depths too, big difference at that.
I can now customize my ammo to shoot the best it can from my firearms I hand load for, with the components & powder I choose.

In a word, SOLD!!
