I realize I'm a little late to the party on the civilian legal IR lasers but I"m going to buy.

For those that own one, how do you like it? How fine is the dot at 75 yards?

All input is welcome.

Thanks,

Paul

To me, the most important aspect of the DBAL-I2 civilian version is the lack of an IR illuminator. The red or green laser may have greater range than the weak IR laser, so you have to determine whether you will need IR illumination at the ranges you normally would detect, identify, and shoot. The answer depends somewhat on what part of the country you hunt and what you are hunting. Personally, I think a PEQ-2A works better for me; although it's longer, it's also lighter and has a well defined dot and an IR illuminator. Still, I'd like to hear more experience with the -I2.

I have a IR torch. So the IR illuminator will help the IR laser at longer distances?

I thought the PEQ-2A was only available for military and LEO?

The DBAL-I2 doesn't have an IR illuminator like the -A2 version does. Adding a Torch will provide illumination for your NVD so you can see targets farther away.

Lasers that are restricted for sale to LE and military are regulated by the FDA for reasons of eye safety. AFAIK, the restriction applies only to the original sale, and reselling a used or previously owned restricted item is OKay. For example, you might run across a DBAL-A2 or PEQ-2A that was previously owned by a police department.

Actually, I just made an inquiry into the LE and Military only versions of those.

-grin-

Too bad I can't take them home if I'm issued one... -smile-
