Thinking about purchasing a new 20" AR15 (.223/5.56mm) rifle to participate in DCM competition. anyone had problems running out of elevation when shooting at 600yds with the removable handle shooting (if yes explain). think some carry handles have more elevation clicks than others, may vary from manufacturer..

Can see need for some additional elevation above that to hit the 600 meter mark, when you consider heavier bullet weights, atmospheric conditions, and elevation you are shooting at. different handles seem to max out at different #of 1/2 MOA clicks (6/3 detachable version).

At Perry this year I noticed that the AMU guys all had detachable carry handles.
I asked them why and they said that they recycle their sights and throw out their uppers after about 1-2 re-barrels.
They shoot a lot and change barrels often so this was a concern of theirs.

They said that Rock River makes a NM detachable carry handle that has the elevation adjustment range to go past 600 yards.

I think that they have their gunsmiths work some voodoo on it but I'd bet that the stock RR unit is just fine.

Call RR and ask, they are very helpful.

lots of spec work done on them, the only thing that is factory is the upper and lower receiver. The uppers mostly use white oak armarment sights set with 1/4 min for both elv/wind. This all came to be since the mil started issuing the A4 which placed the detachable receiver in the mil spec class. Yes we would burn up two barrels a season, easier to swap carrying handles than rebuilding good sights that often. Stay center.
