I kind of want to screw around with gas guns a bit. I am a bolt shooter 99.7% of the time but was thinking that playing with a gas gun during the matches that I run could be fun as my scores never count anyways.

I have a buddy with the above gun and I was thinking for the right price the DD + Odin Works 6.5 Grendel Barrel and bolt could work.

I know pretty close to nothing about gas guns so looking for lots of opinions.

Thanks!

If you know what you want, build your own. Otherwise buying off the shelf like a DD would be good. But I highly suggest doing your research and building instead of buying

Although a solid rifle, DD’s are insanely overpriced for what you get. Plus Marty Daniel the owner is a fucking retard.

Colt, BCM, or LMT will serve you much better for an honest price point.

I have the DD pro and it a great rifle. It shoots 3/4" -1" max. Everything shoots well in it. That being said- I agree get one built. I amusing Craddock Precision for a second build now. Mine shoots 1/2" groups- .6" and he is a great guy to deal with and is actually not pricey either! I cannot say enough good things about him. After this one he is doing a 224 Valk. for me as well. I would go this route out of the gate and get exactly what you want.

I'm kind of in the same boat here. I know extremely little about AR's, don't have experience shooting them and it's not like they are very common in Canada. I've been looking at the V7 as well simply because DD is pretty well known for making a good rifle.

If you want a 6.5 grendel, check out SOLGW, they are building me a precision 308 ar10, they also do 6.5g.

I have a 6.5 grendel from Sionics that is sweet. You will need to email or call them to build that, its not a regular thing they build (yet).

You'd be better off to buy a complete upper and you can assemble a lower yourself if you're handy and have a few basic tools. You'll be able to get a better upper if you don't have to buy wrenches and jigs. Unless you plan on building more.

Other option is to get a complete rifle. That's fine too. You can also get a complete KAC lower, which will retain resale value far better than anything else and it's ambi. Not as an afterthought, it has controls on both sides, made that way. Get an upper and slap 'em together and you're done.

For an upper, if you want Grendel, I'd look at Alexander Arms or Brownells and see if you can't score a cut rifled Satern barreled upper. I built one using a Satern bbl. and it's ridiculously accurate, .33MOA consistent with the right ammo. It really likes 120gr. Nosler BT's. The Satern bbl.'d uppers should come with a matching bolt too.

It's probably my best rifle. Probably best all around too. Wish I just had more components to load for it. Should have bought WAAY more brass back when AA headstamp was actually Lapua brass... Only complaint is it's costly to shoot compared to 5.56. And you'll wanna factor in the cost of a good optic for this one.

Update that may help you decide. I got the load development pack from copper creek and shot the DD Pro yesterday. It shoot the black load in one ragged hole. It was so small it was hard to measure all 5 rds but I would say 1/4" no bullshit group. It also shot some cheap Fronteir 75 grn stuff in right at .6" If you get one get the load development kit for it with the 77 SMK and I am guessing you can duplicate this. I am so impressed with it I may honestly order another DD barrel for it for when I shot this one out.
