Gunsmithing Def. Edge bolt stop tips

Anybody have any tips on how to keep from breaking the 1/16th drill bit for drilling the pivot pin hole when you punch through the bottom of the action? Other than my breaking a couple of bits I like this modification.

Can't say for certain with your application, but in other drilling operations I have found that if feed rate is reduced prior to punching through, bit damage is less likely to occur.

Since it's a through hole, there's no need for a travel indicator, but knowing how far you have left to go before punching through might save you some headache in the long run.

I use a carbide drill bit and lots of pecks and coolant. I had the carbide bits last as many as 30 with out any problems in CM and SS.
