What you forget is that many homes were owned by elderly people that have seen their homes appreciate, because of location, these homes were built in the 1950's, but are on fixed incomes, these homes are paid off but they could not afford the inflation cost of insurance. Do they now become wards of the government? Not everyone, was income rich. Sure as the Korean War generation dies off, the homes are remodeled but plenty of people in their late 80's in the Palisades.
Until she gets caught stealing and writing thousands of dollars in fake business expenses. It's why they ran for the job. It's what they do.

Insurance companies live and die on being able to assess risk and then price it. They are really, really good at it. You can bet that the insuranc companies have been raising rates as a result of everything from packed-in construction to incompetent fire policies to land management to the last few years' droughts.. to the rebuilding cost when a 2 x 4 is now $15...
They needed to raise rates and Newscum went all 'socialist' and told them that they could not raise rates commensurate with the potential payouts. So guess what.... they cancelled the policies. They can do that. They are in business to return value to their shareholders. Period. End of story. Not give money away at a lost.
