DEI Hire LA Mayor turns into a mute when confronted by reporter about Calif. fires.

I think the California politicians were purposely ignoring the fire threat. They are counting on the federal government $$$$ to rebuild the destroyed homes and businesses. The housing construction BOOM Is going to pump BILLIONS of dollars into their economy and millions siphoned off and laundered into private accounts
If you've ever seen the TV series Justified, one of the sub-plots was some wealthy landed gentry trying to hire the murdering outlaw co-main character to blow a hole in a coal slurry pond that sat above property they owned. Their reasoning was that the federal government would shower them with EPA Super Fund money for the clean up.

Doesn't sound so far-fetched as it used to.

But has anybody thought about how much co2 has been released from these fires? Lots of air pollution from smoke. Make the rest of the US should sue California for reckless amounts of air pollution.

For being soooo concerned about air pollution that we have to get rid of all gas engines by 2030 they sure are polluting a lot

State Farm Insurance dumped 1,600 policies in Pacific Palisades last summer.

They should have just collected another 6 months of premiums and then denied all the claims.

Do they not know how "insurance" works? Brian Thompson is not around to teach them anymore.

James Wood's home burned. He didn't have it insured.

I thought Woody loved to see a home in rubble? Why the tears?

I guess it's different when it's his mansion? It would actually make an awesome reality show if they starve him for a year while he lives under a flour sack, dodging explosions day and night.

Hey! I think I just figured out how some... Hollywood Producers... can earn their millions back! There is expertise in this area...

What you forget is that many homes were owned by elderly people that have seen their homes appreciate, because of location, these homes were built in the 1950's, but are on fixed incomes, these homes are paid off but they could not afford the inflation cost of insurance. Do they now become wards of the government? Not everyone, was income rich. Sure as the Korean War generation dies off, the homes are remodeled but plenty of people in their late 80's in the Palisades.
And they all have been voting Republican. Cool story.

Blue California is a SHITHOLE

We did not make Blue California a SHITHOLE

I am not going to feel bad that, that Blue SHITHOLE is ablaze 🔥

REAP IT!!!!

The fix is in. Like planned obsolescence, it can look random, but any logical analysis will conclude the stage was set for a certain type of outcome. Exactly how that develops is irrelevant to the planners, as long as the purposes of distraction and land clearing are achieved. We are seeing the sacrifice of a class that thought they were protected and special.

you're going to see developers come in and scoop up all that property for pennies on the dollar.... most of the people i don't see being able to afford to rebuild, especially when you factor in the amount of people needing to build and and trying to locate a contractor. Then factor in the rise in cost of materials... if you're a contractor, it appears there will be money to be made, hand over fist.

As far as the celebrities that lost their McMansion, pound sand .... they're just going to go to their 2nd or 3rd home and cry crocodile tears

There is a lot of truth about recovery time and expense. We were hit by the Carr Fire in 2018 and there are still people trying to finish their re-build 6 years later.

Another factor will be most developers will not want to do individual houses, they would rather build a whole subdivision of cookie cutter units.

Buckle up folks it's going to get even more fun. Stick with me this is a bit long:
  1. California Democratic political hacks have been keeping playing games with the property and casualty insurance rates in CA for years to keep rates artificially low for customers.
  2. This caused lots of insurers to quit the market and drop coverage for high risk areas.
  3. The CA government started the FAIR plan to cover those folks that the insurance companies refused to cover. It's "expensive" but still doesn't collect anywhere near the amount of premiums to cover the potential losses they are underwriting. In the commercial market we would call this "fraud" and send you to jail for a very long time. You would also never ever work anywhere in the insurance industry again.
  4. Technically it isn't the California government running the plan so the "taxpayers aren't on the hook". However, here is where it gets fun. If FAIR runs out of reserves to pay claims they are allowed to force all the remaining insurance carriers in CA to pay those costs. No matter how big.
  5. Of course the insurance companies can then pass all of those costs on to everyone in CA with property and casualty insurance. And you can't say no because you have to have insurance for any building that has a mortgage.
  6. This fire is projected to be the largest losses in California history and all in areas that were very high risk due to being in the hills (Malibu, Santa Monica, Hidden Hills, and Altadena; except for the fire near Sylmar, that place is a shithole next to a landfill where houses are merely 500Kish). So it's likely that the FAIR plan was covering a whole lot of those properties. Once again the rich get cheap insurance to cover them while the rest of the residents of CA are on the hook to bail them out.
We are likely about to see every homeowner and business in CA get forced to pay for this our of their own pockets. The entire Democratic establishment is probably in meltdown mode right now and trying to find ways to get the Feds to bail FAIR out. Next step will be to blame the greedy insurance companies if that fails. If the repukes find their balls they might actually be able to make some headway in CA running on this, but alas they likely will find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

This three ring circus is just getting started.

No doubt Newscum is going to use taxpayers dollars to bail out people due to negligence and incompetence on his and the CA democrat part.
Wouldn't be surprise if he hits the potato up for bailout fund before DJT takes office.
If Newscum wasn't giving out money for illegals there would be money for updating infrastructure and fire prevention practices ( cleaning up dangerous dried brush and undergrowth for starters) .
Forcing remaining insurance companies to pay costs is total bs and communist move.
Too much government interference has screwed things up out there, if the free market had been allowed to operate, we wouldn't see a lot of these expensive disasters.

Do you really think the home was the valued asset? Insurance or not, everyone will be fine. The property alone is probably worth twice what most homes are worth. Even if the property value is slashed by half, they are probably still close to a millionaire.

If I was a developer and wanted to build exclusive homes in an exclusive area, what better way than to remove the fire risk by setting it ablaze, thereby removing shit homes in the way of exclusive homes! That's my daily conspiracy theory.

Are we gonna let the tail wag the dog. The problem is not the fire budget. The problem is lack of and even banning of fire mitigation measures like clearing brush and tall weeds and cutting trees. Lord knows there are plenty of people in the jails of LA to get the job done.

Exactamundo.

"There is fire, so we must need more fire budget," is the same as saying, "There is crime, so we must need more police budget."

Government Employee Unions ( <--- No such thing ) make sure that the more you pay them, the lower the quality goes... which can of course be addressed with more pay.

This is because when a Union engages in collective bargaining with employers, a deal is struck that balances workforce demands with guarantees that benefit the employer. If the Employer says, "No" then he is welcome to give it a go with other workforce, if the Workforce is too greedy, then the business goes under and nobody has a job.

This is not possible with governments because handing over generous demands to the Workforce doesn't come out of Management's "end," nor is it possible for Gov to "go out of business" when the Workforce is greedy and compensation is too generous.

California is the PRIME example of this, anywhere in the US.

For example... there are many "Chiefs" of all the little neighborhood departments that they make, and their roles are primarily admin and motivational. Guess how much they make?

$241K, $232K, $222K, $218K...

Oh, but they are assisted in their roles by Assistant Chiefs... what do those guys make?

$197K, $191K, $190K...

More fire budget means that these guys get a second vacation in Thailand and a Tesla- not less fire. You actually get MORE fire.

This was not caused by an "under resourced" LAFD; they are very well equipped and trained. The issue is all the other idiotic choices made by State and Local governments as well as homeowners. Now we have to listen to a bunch of rich people who gamed the system and their bought politicians telling the rest of California that even more taxpayer money is needed to enable rich people to continue to make even more stupid decisions.

As soon as Trump gets into office he needs to commandeer a hour of national airtime and explain Ross Perot style why California isn't getting any federal money to fix this. Explain how stupid and wasteful the California government has become and how badly they have screwed this up. Then tell the rest of America that the Federal Government won't be bailing out self inflicted wounds.

Ideally this could end any thoughts of Gavin Newsom trying to run for President in 2028 as well as giving the California Republican Party some good talking points to work with. This is the Democrat's fault, make them pay the price.

This country and the BS in this thread makes me sick. A lot of you (like franko) are blowing so much smoke up peoples asses, you might as well just go ahead and admit you are gay.

This country will rally for these California FUCKS, meanwhile the Appalachians have to have the Amish come down there to build them tiny homes, while FEMA shows up and tells them they can’t build any more tiny homes, and they keep building tiny homes anyway because folks are freezing.

California has become a shit hole that has been exporting their shit hole mess all over the country. These folks are busy turning Colorado into the next little California shit hole right now. I had to flee that state when I saw what was coming. The Democrat controled legislature in Colorado just fired up and they are already working on an assault weapons ban.

No matter what anybody says, what is going on in in California was totally predictable. The alarm was raised time and time again. It was also to a large degree totally preventable. And yes, there is a tremendous lack of resources involved in this situation for anybody who’s paying attention.

Once again, the taxpayers will subsidize these mostly rich fucks over there in California. While they are busy trying to turn the whole country into a Third World country..

I swear when I see this sort of bullshit on X, it’s sickening when I see it here. I just here lose all faith in humanity.

We should be saying one thing to California right now! REAP IT!!!🔥

So she and her husband lost their home that they weren't able to get insurance on, which means they paid cash because NO BANK will finance you without insurance, especially in a known natural disaster area. And it's LA county, so I'm thinking at a minimum $500k. Google says the average in LA county is $800k.

She has done 14 rounds of IVF, at a google'd average of $20k per in California. 20 * 14 = $280k.

So at the average housing cost and low-end average of IVF, this couple spent $1M.

And now you're on the internet begging strangers for money?

FUCK YOU.
I'm just worried that those blue voting fuckheads will relocate in Texas, and many will.

The Katrina refugees went to Houston and never left.

The catch-phrase a few years ago, was "Two weeks to flatten the curve..."

Now it is "Two weeks to run out of fuel...."

As an aside, I agree with the opinion of:

Arsonists should be summarily executed. Televised broadly, from a distance and pay-per-view for those wanting closer-ups. Their fire budget would be tripled in short time.

Politicians that create this catastrophic situation should also be punished severely. Make being a politician a humbling necessity with a time limit, as opposed to a 'sought-after trough-feeding' in perpetuity.

There was a movie made in '82 called The Border with Jack Nicholson playing a border patrol agent caught up in the human smuggling / coyote business. One of the fellow smugglers
was a filthy old junk yard owner that learned Nicholson's character was from California.
Even that filthy old bastard had a low opinion of California when he stated "California. I worked in California. I never met anybody from there that was worth a pinch of shit..."
That was forty-two years ago.

My own uncle worked for the government in Calif. in one of their many disasters and he came back to Texas shaking his head, saying "Those people are crazy."

What do you think they are supposed to do with him?

Draw dicks on his face? Make peepee in his mouth?

*threw*

But, yes, Bass cut LAFD’s budget by $17M and then just a week ago sent a memo out proposing cutting another $49 MILLION from LAFD’s budget. She needs to be held accountable and resign immediately.

The $17M cut was a 2% cut. The LAFD budget total was $850M.

Fire and Police together account for 58.2% of a $6.7B budget in Los Angeles. That is $9,899,400,000.

All the important stuff like Sanitation, Street Services, Street Lighting, Transportation, Engineering, Board, Contract Administration, Capital Improvements, Building & Safety, and Planning is UNDER 11%.

Karen Bass was being a Dirty Lib by not cutting $200M off the top, as a START.

What if I told you that the ONLY way to get LAFD to do their jobs was to cut the budget right in half to $425M?

Anyone that willingly moves to California is fuc't in the head.

I've known people from there and they were fuc't morally. I mean they didn't have zero morals, they went into the negative, into evil range.

One was a big tech-mogul that made his fortune in California piggybacking on Microsoft and moved to Texas. He is your perfect example of a Globalist.

He bought land and calls himself a rancher. Thing is, he despises anyone thats a native Texan. He only allows high-tech people, non natives and his illegal alien brush cutters to hunt and enjoy his property. Conservative, white native Texans are persona non grata.

Texas Ranger Capt. John Hays fought the Comanche Indians and Mexicans in a three way battle for Texas, earning respect and the name "Brave too much" by the Comanches.

He later went on to California and founded the city of Oakland. Upon the birth of Hays' first son in California, Comanche Chief Buffalo Hump (real Indian name Potsʉnakwahipʉ or "Erection That Won't Go Down" I'm not shitting you) sent Hays a gift, a silver cup engraved "Buffalo Hump Jr," implying that John was not the Father.

Comanches, as ferocious and feared as they were, were also known to be huge practical jokers with a sense of humor.
